BTDT Mom's, if you can help with clothes ?

I am due in about 4 weeks and just trying to make sure we have everything in order prior to that.

With respects to Newborn clothes vs. 0-3 months size, how much Newborn stuff do you think I need on hand? I have about 5 Newborn PJ's, some cotton pants and a ton of Onesies. I don't have much Newborn clothes, but I hear that the baby lives in basically a Onesie for the first few weeks anyway.

0-3 months, I have enough and of course plan on buying as I need it.

Also coming home from the Hospital, did you bring a newborn outfit and a 0-3 month outfit with you?

Thanks Ladies

Sounds like enough!

Yes, I brought a newborn outfit and a 0-3 outfit. It will all depend on the size of your baby. DD was only 6 lbs 3 oz, we were in newborn clothes for a loooonnng time!!! If your DC will be in the 8-9 lb range, its likely you will only need newborn clothes for a short time, if at all!!!

I agree, the baby will live in onesies for a long time- so as long as you have a ton of them, you are good!

my DD was only in NB clothes for about a week and could fit into 0-3 from day one. Now at 5 weeks she's in 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes.

We just have a few pj's, some outfits and ton's of onesies. Since we have central air we've been keeping her pretty well dressed.

My dd was born 8 lb 4 oz(she lost some weight though and went down to 7lb 7oz), but I had her in newborn clothes for like 2 weeks. For the hospital I brought a 0-3 outfit...it was big but ok.

Ann was 6lbs 3oz and I only handful of newborn outfits (DH is 6'5" and all of his nieces/nephews were big babies, so everyone expected our baby to be big!). The outfits I had packed were both 0-3 (we were Chat Icon) so DH had to find a NB outfit & bring it to the hospital - and it was still HUGE.

She actually wore preemie clothes for about 3 weeks, then newborn for probably 3 months.

I don't remember how much we had - he wore newborn for at least a few weeks - a month. One thing we really liked - the snap tee shirts. I HATED putting anything over his head b/c I was afraid I was going to hurt him so - and he hated it as well (actually, he still does) so we ended up hardly using a lot of our onsies. The tee shirts were great and I liked putting them with pants that had feet. Pants with socks were so annoying b/c none of the socks would stay on.

ETA - he was able to fit into newborn for a while, but we also used the 0-3 months b/c they were big, but no too bad. I wouldn't recommend a lot of newborn.

DD was tiny-6lbs 6ozs and she was in NB for almost 2 months. You can always pick up more after your baby is born if you find you need them. I am insane so my DD was never in onesies. She was always in an outfit. But I am not normal, so you might not do what I did. Chat Icon

I would just bring a NB outfit to the hospital. I know many with babies who are in the 8-9lb range who are in NB. DD was in NB until 10.5 pounds.

ETA-She was actually fitting best in preemie for the first month!

Re: BTDT Mom's, if you can help with clothes ?

my twins were preemie's so they got alot of use out of newborn clothes..
but in your case it seems like you have enough!

the onesies and pajamas are all they need for the beginning!
my boys lived in onesies and still do!! Chat Icon

i recomend getting any onesies or PJ's with the mittens attached.. they were really helpful !

Honestly it really depends on the size of your child- and every child is different. Both my girls were 20 inches at birth - DD#1 was 9 lbs 4 ozs and DD#2 was 9lbs 5 ozs.

DD#1 never wore newborn - the 0-3 was huge but the newborn just didn't fit.

DD#2 on the other hand who was 1 oz larger - wore newborn for about 3-4 weeks.

I would have 0-3 on hand and some newborn items that you can return in case your DC never wears them. I made the mistake with DD#1 having washed 2-3 items thinking she might wear one or two things - then they never fit her - luckily DD#2 was able to wear them - but b.c DD#1 never wore newborn - I didn't have any outfits really on hand so my mom had to run out and buy a couple items for me when DD#2 came home.

DD was 5 lbs 11 oz when she was born. we were in premie for a while. my FAVORITE thing to dress her in were those long nightgown-ie outfits so that i didn't have to undress her or unbotton anything for a diaper change. i just scootched up bottom of the nightgown. they make them for boys and girls.
