How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
So we are planning the bridal shower for my brother's fiance, all the other bridesmaids are friends and there is me and the bride's sister.
Right now there is a difference of opinions on thank yous. One girl suggested that we buy the thank you's, stamp the envelopes, and then bring the envelops to the shower and have the guests fill out their own address. I agree with everything BUT having the guest's fill out the envelopes. My mom and brother (the groom) are fuming over the idea. One of the bridesmaids actually went to the bride and 'sold" her on the idea since it was done at other showers they threw. (Don't even get me started about why they are talking to the bride about this )
I'm curious as to what everyone thinks: Is having the guests at a shower fill out their own thank you envelope a yes or a no?

I think it's a little tacky. Obviously she has the addresses otherwise you couldn't have invited them to the shower. Why not address the envelopes using a printer? That way they're already done for her but you're not giving the guests a chore.

Re: How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
I think it may create an issue for people who didnt come or people who weren't invited but sent a gift anyway. For SIL's baby shower I just did it all for her, I gave her a stack of pre-addressed thank you cards with return address and everything and the cards. She was so grateful for it too.
I just used the same print outs I used to mail the invites in the first place.
Also I kinda think it would be annoying because they're going to be hand written and I like things to look neat and orderly so it would bug me

As a guest, I would prefer not to.
Maybe convince the bridesmaid to have the guests fill out an address book instead? This way you can present it as a gift for the bride.

EXACTLY! I said we have the list we can write them or print them for her (and do so ahead of time too, heck! I'll even do them all myself!) I also brought up the fact that she will still need to keep track of who didn't show up but sent a gift and still do those invites.
I just think it's a turn off. I feel like you are telling the guests: thank you for coming and spending this day with me now please fill out this envelope i don't have an extra 2 minutes to do it myself!

Re: How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
My BM did it for me at my bridal shower and it was a life saver!
However, my cousin just gave me the labels that she used for the invitations for my baby shower - and that was super easy too.
If it becomes a big deal, I would just go with the labels.
Slightly off topic, but for both of my showers - my girls printed out a guest list in alphabetical order by first name. As I opened the gifts, they were able to go through the list and write down what it was. I just had to fill out the people who didn't come to the shower. It made it neater and easier since the names were already written out - great time saver!

Re: How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
I don't like the idea.
I have seen the bridal party pass around an address book and the guests write their address in it.
It starts the bride and groom with everyones address.

Although we have a list of addresses already, I like this idea. I bought her a guest book for the shower and in the back I was planning of keeping track of the gifts for as she opens everything.

my sister and I did this for eachother for our showers. We filled out the addresses though. I don't presonally like the idea of having guests fill out their own addresses.

I know it's common, but I don't like it. If I'm throwing a shower I usually address the thank yous for the bride or mom to be as well.

Re: How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
I think I am just going to get the address list from the bride's sister and print out address lables ahead of time. When they get mad at me so be it. They aren't a fan of me anyway since I am not in "their circle"
I am just so upset and fustrated. Even the bride is upset that some of these girls are so self centered and because of that we haven't even planned the bachelorette party. The year started with YES! We're going to Puerto Rico, as the time gets closer they are crying about money but these girls go down the shore every weekend, are always in AC, and one girl already is missing the shower because she is going on her 2nd vacation of the summer!

Absolutely NOT!
Sorry, but that is really tacky. People are spending time and $$ coming to a shower and giving gifts. The LEAST the bride can do is write out thoughtful thank you notes AND address them herself. If the BMs want to do this as a gift to the bride, that's one thing. Having the guests do it themselves is in poor taste IMHO.
If you're worried about not having all the addresses (which would be weird since the invites got to all of these people), get an address book for the bride and pass it around for guests to fill in for her. We did that at my shower, and it was a great gift.

Don't like the idea, it sounds like laziness to me.
If you used labels for mailing the invites out, why not use the same labels to mail out the TY's.

i've seen a cute spin on it, though - pass around an address book. everyone can fill in their current addresses and then it's gifted to the bride!

Re: How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
I usually put together the thank you cards for showers I host. I buy the thank you's, print the labels and assemble them, and wrap them up with a bow with sheets of stamps. That makes it easier for the bride/mom-to-be and it's easy!

Never heard of that before. I think it's the bride to be's job to do the thank yous. I would just give her the labels on the sheet and let her do the writing.
Just saw that address book...cute idea. If these people are going to be invited to the wedding doesn't she have the addresses already?

Re: How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
i say other, bc I dont really have an opinion. I have bigger things to be concerned with and if it helps a friend out to make their life a little easier, then Im willing to do it. Its just writing my name on an envelope, 10 seconds of my life, iit is not that big of a deal.

I don't like the idea. What I did for the bride was bought the thank-you's, stamped them, and addressed them myself. If you think about it the bridal party has all of the addresses for the invitations - so just use the same list and address the thank-you's if you want to help the bride out.

Re: How would you feel? (Thank you card related)
I've done it at showers and I don't care at all. Wedding planning is so stressful and busy-if it makes the brides life easier and these people attending are all friends and family why would they care?

I think I would do this in the situation, since the bridesmaids want to help, but you can keep the tack level down.
I would never do it, but I have done it at showers and I don't get upset by it at all. The showers where I have done it, it is an entry into a prize - at least that made it a little fun.

I went to a shower once where we had to fill out our own info ON the envelope.. people were whispering about during the entire party. I think it's a little tacky.
