We have a MyBook. I think it's a 500GB. We are actually going to get another one solely for pictures.

I have a Western Digital Passport. No complaints, no raves. It's just a HD.
Costco usually has a coupon every month for some type of external drive.

Re: Can you recommend your external hard drive?
they are all pretty much the same thing.. major different is warranty which if you need to use it, your already screwed because that means a disk failure which can happen to the best of drives.
MyBook and passports are pretty standard.

HIya. Just joined but thought I would answer.
Most external hard drives are made by the same company. You are really way safe with any name brand you want from any big box store.
Get the kind that does NOT require power from the wall.
cool beans.

I have a Seagate FreeAgent for a while now. I like the software that comes with it because it backs up any files that have changed without me doing anything.

Re: Can you recommend your external hard drive?
let me start off this subject falls into my professional life....
save yourself the head/heart-ach... no matter what HD you get they die or have problems... look into cloud computing... off-site storage..
sites like Mozy or iDrive.... you never have to worry about things crashing on your end and its accessible from just about anywhere with an internet connection.

I had one. It died a little over one year old. You can only retrieve the stuff if you send it away to them. NO WAY am I gonna send my personal stuff out!
So....I vote against MyBOOK.

Wow, thank you. I have never heard about that. I'll look into it for sure. I thought about that with the hard drive. It's kind of like temporary storage

Are they all that expensive? $5 per month doesn't sound like a lot but over a few years it sure adds up.
