External Hard Drive?
Does anyone use an external hard drive? Or how do you back up your PC? I have hundreds of photos that I have never backed up & I need to do it. TIA!

Re: External Hard Drive?
I have an external drive at home and at work. I use Microsoft's SyncToy It's free, and it's an easy way to keep your C: drive and your external drive in sync. I have it set up to make sure both drives are the same (it copies in both directions), or you can have it only copy from your C: to your external, etc. It only copies the files that have changed, so after the first time through, it goes really quick.

Re: External Hard Drive?
oh shoot.... definitely buy TWO.... I would never trust one or even 2 drives to store priceless family photos....
I have a maxtor one touch (several years old), and a new western digital. the western digital is GREAT. It's tiny, and fits into the side pocket of my laptop bag.
Anyone reading this.... please back up all of your stuff! you'll regret it someday if you don't

Re: External Hard Drive?
I back up pix onto DVD's AND we have a My Book. I think I back up pictures every 3 months or so. I agree with a PP about having 2 kinds of back up.

I use that SyncToy tool I mentioned to sync all my photos among my internal drive at home, my external at home, my laptop, my internal at work and my external at work.... I work in IT, so I definitely don't trust hard drives... if I lose all 5 copies, I'm assuming I have bigger things to worry about...

Like a nuclear fall out.
I normally have them in atleast two places but I was half way through the transfer process. I didn't think they would be at risk for a few hours. Wrong.
