Re: I watched "The Business of Being Born"

I didn't see it, what channel was it on? I have a friend who lives upstate and one of her good friends just had a home birth.....I thought she was nuts because the closest hospital is like an hour away! I give a LOT of credit to the women who do, I don't think I could!

Never saw it but I can't do a home birth because there would be no epidural or pain killers involved.

LOL I felt like this too!!

I thought it was great and it is one of the reasons I would like to try a natural birth. It really opend my eyes on a lot of things and I think everyone should watch it.

I could have done without the naked Ricki Lake though Chat Icon

Never saw it, but I read the book (or a book with the same title). Like everyone else said, it opened my eyes to quite a bit. I don't think I could do a homebirth, and definitely not with my first. But I have a midwife instead of an obgyn, and am aiming for a birth with as few interventions as possible.

i'm glad you saw it and liked it!! it is a definite eye opener. after i watched it i started reading everything related that i could get my hands on. one of my favorite books is "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth", it talks about trusting your body, and has lots of natural birth stories. after i read it i was actually feeling happy and excited to give birth instead of nervous like i used to be.

i also am going with a midwife and would love to have a homebirth, but we will see... she says that it depends on how the pregnancy is going and if anything comes up. if she says its ok down the road, then i will probably want one!!Chat Icon

Re: I watched "The Business of Being Born"

I watched it when we first started TTC a couple years ago, and thought it was great. I've always wanted a home birth, but my DH said absolutely not. So I settled for using a midwife at Winthrop. I am aiming for a birth with no drugs and the least amount of interventions. I believe our bodies are meant to do this, so I haven't been scared or nervous for a second about birth - only excited!
