Gardasil Question

Does anyone know if you can get the Gardasil shots while preggo? It turns out I never got the shots (totally thought I didChat Icon ) so I def wanna get it ASAP. I know it's a 3 shot series and that you have to wait between each one. I don't know if I'll get preggo before I get it or while I'm waiting between shots. Does anyone have info on this??

Re: Gardasil Question

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think so. I know when I started talking to my doc about TTC he said I should get the shots first before I get PG.

Re: Gardasil Question

i think to they dont' recommend them to women after a certain age. I never had it and asked my dr about it since I have had issues and she said im past the age they recommend it.

Re: Gardasil Question

What is this for? HPV vaccine? I never got it and do not want it ( plus I am over the age limit). Is it necessary to have it? Can't you get after you have a baby?Chat Icon

Re: Gardasil Question

I do NOT want to get flamed for this .. I just thought I'd share some info I believe to be true about this shot but I'm not 100% sure... just some food for thought!!

From what I know, the shot protects against cervical cancer that is CAUSED by HPV, which is an STD. If you are monogamous relationship, you shouldn't be worried about contracting HPV, and therefore the shot would be meaningless.

Again, this is just what I have HEARD.. if anyone wants to confirm or dispute, feel free, but please no flames!! Chat Icon

You're 100% right. Gardasil protects you from cervical cancer that is caused by HPV. HPV is a STD. The shot, which comes in 3 doses, is recommended for women up to the age of 26.

However, being monogomous does not mean you are 100% protected from HPV. My best friend has a very loving and devoted husband who she has been married to for 20+ years. He cheated ONE time, contracted HPV, passed it to my best friend, and she ended up with cancer and had to have a hysterectomy.

It's a complete personal decision to get the shot or not. And I'm definitely not flaming you. But I just wanted to share a story that shows why believing you are in a monogomous relationship is not protection against HPV.

This is NOT true. YES, the shot protects you from cervical cancer that CAN be caused from HPV. Being in a monogamous relationship, has NOTHING to do with contacting HPV. I have been in a monogamous relationship for over 15 years and we both have been 100% faithful. I still had HPV. If the shot is available, get it.

Sorry, totally crashing here but one of my best friends is a doctor specializing in infectious disease and he has 2 daughters so we talked about this recently.

You can get HPV through touching, actually. It's not like HIV where it's only spread through blood / fluid contact. Up to 75% of everyone in America has had it at some point in their lives. He told me that by the time most people are teenagers they've been exposed to it. The vaccine is just not practical to give to people over a certain age - they've already fooled around with one or more people and are likely to have already been exposed.
