Re: moms who delivered at nsuh in manhasset

I had great experiences both times. The nurses are really great. During my first delivery they asked if a med student could watch and I said no. But when I had the twins, they were pretty excited about a vaginal delivery so I let them in, it was packed in there, lol.

They have a dessert time in the evenings for the moms and dads, cookies, pasties, juice.

When you leave you empty all of the supplies out of the baby cart, diapers, wipes, creams etc. They also give formula if you are not bf.

I delivered my son there in 12/08. I had a great experience there. The nurses were very sweet in L&D but not AS nice in maternity. Every time they would bring the baby into me I would empty the supplies (formula, diapers) from the bassinet and stick it in my overnight bag. When I went home they were VERY generous with giving me formula to take home. As far as the snacks go---they do have a dessert cart at night but I honestly didn't go see it so I can't help you out there. I had DH or family bring me food when I was there. I highly recommend brining your own pads and towels for the shower. I brought both and I was VERY happy that I did. As far as the medical students---I did have them in my room for delivery as I didn't even think to ask for them not to be there. I had a positive experience with them. Good luck!!! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Re: moms who delivered at nsuh in manhasset

I delivered there back in September on probably one of the busiest days there, the size of the nursery was doubled in one day. The night I delivered DD, we were lucky to get a room, and it was in the Antepartum unit, I honestly don't remember much b/c I was coming off the anesthesia from my c-section.

The nurses in that unit were ok, I didn't really get the help I needed trying to BF, the following night we were transferred into a private room and it made a world of difference, we were now in the post partum section and the nursing staff was excellent. Answered all my questions, gave us plenty of freebies. I honestly didn't need anything for the baby but the going home outfit and blankets. They don't let you take home linens, but we wound up w/ a few in our bag Chat Icon
They have plenty of snacks and water and soda available in the hall area. And they give you three meals a day and we'd keep some of the fruits etc to snack on.

Given the circumstances (very busy day) I felt they were very accomodating and helpful.

My experience was awesome.

The nurses were so nice, some more than others, but that's to be expected. I didn't want to be coddled, so I had no issues.

One aide sent us home with a bag FULL of formula, the one-time use nipples and diapers.

There was a snack cart every night, but honestly, the regular menu has so much food on it, I ended up saving parts of my meal for later and I didn't need the cart. If you want something specific, bring it. The food is really good.

I don't remember med students. But it was 2 years ago so I could have just forgotten.

Other tips?
If you have a vaginal delivary, you will get the bed closest to the door, if you have a c-section, you will get the window bed. Unless it's so crowded that they can't accomodate this.

Spouses can stay overnight. My roommates husband snored so loudly but you just have to deal.

The baby can be with you whenever you want. I only had DD stay in the nursery one night. The others she was with me.

Let me know if you have any iother questions. Good luck!

I delivered there on Thanksgiving 2008 and had a good experience. They had limited staff due to the holiday but it was still ok. Bring your own towels and bath stuff for you. Don't bother dressing the baby in your own clothes becasue they will change the baby to the hospital shirt everytime they bring the baby back to you. Also, tell DH to bring your own snacks and food.

Re: moms who delivered at nsuh in manhasset

I delivered there last January. I had a great experience. I was induced so I was on the L&D ward Friday night, delivered Sat a/n, and was moved to a private room Sat evening, and d/c Mon morning. The L&D nurses were excellent. The maternity ward, I had a couple of really good ones and a couple of eh ones.

I barely left my room so I have no idea what was going on out there! I wasn't up for eating so DH would just bring me a sandwich or soup. I didn't bring my own pads or towels. Silly me did not empty out the cart much and there was never mention of formula b/c I BF but I should've asked for a couple of sample cans to have on hand just in case. I did not want DH to stay over and kept the baby in the nursery at night but had them bring him to me at night to nurse.

Oh, as for residents and med students: I had a resident checking me while I was induced and check my BP during my stay but the minute I saw a med student I informed the nurse that I did not want him observing. For my delivery I declined to have a resident observe so it was only my dr, a nurse, and DH with me.

I was in NSUH for about a month. I started in the antepartum/high risk area.
The nurses were fantastic!
The day I had to deliver DD (C Section) they wheeled me to L&D and the nurses there were GREAT!
After I came out of recovery, they let me go back into my room that I have been in all that time (private).
I had a great experience there.
I do remember seeing trays of cookies and I believe coffee or juice set up.
My DD didn't get to come to my room. She was in the NICU (another fabulous area with fantastic dr.s and nurses...she was there for 1 month).
I have no complaints whatsoever.

I had a very good experience w/ DS! they were very generous w/ diapers , pads, etc. the only thing was they seemed very hesitant to give me formula. I feel like they wanted me to try harder to BF? the nurses were great! I don't remember having any residents in my room during the c section but I can't be sure. they don't announce them right? I had nurses and stuff but not sure about residents. I'll be there again about 8 weeks so hope to have another good delivery. snacks not sure about I was not eating well after I had the c sec. they food is pretty good tho surprisingly. I had a window which was nice. I brought my own pillow which was nice. I used their towels and kept the gown on the whole time except the last day.
