Re: if you delivered at NSUH in manhasset-

I delivered there almost 6 weeks ago!

They were GREAT. Really. I loved all my nurses, they were so nice and helpful and calming.

Honestly I didn't see many students. I only knew of 1 definitely b/c he came in to introduce himself while my legs were spread open, getting ready to push lol i was his "first delivery" (of course!)

But he left shortly after (i think i scared him away lol) but other than that, I didn't notice any others.

They gave me a ton of formula, receiving blankets (the ones they wrap them in in the nursery with) and they gave me packages of pads to take home since i was bleeding so much

Re: if you delivered at NSUH in manhasset-

LOL, I had the COMPLETE opposite experience 5 weeks ago!!

The nurses took FOREVER when I pressed the red button for assistance and believe me I BARELY pressed it- MAYBE twice a day just to ask for tylenol. My DH stayed with me the whole 48 hours and I tell everyone that I don't know wth I would have done w/o him. The catheter stretches u out a bit and for the first day or so when I had to pee I had to get to the bathroom QUICK or I would have an accident, lol. If DH wasn't there to help m out of bed I DEF would have peed on myself 10 times.

I also felt like I had A MILLION different nurses, more than 3 per 24 hours (which u would think would be the shift breakdown) and that constant rotation probably did not help either. There were at least 3 times when one came in and I asked for something- like a refill on hemorrhoid cream, and episiotomy ice packs lol, and I NEVER got them.

The freebies were ZERO for me, lol. I had planned on bfing and ended up ffing and the day I left was a big snow storm so I asked for a few rtf to take home so we would not have to stop for formula on the way and the nurse said NO! That was even AFTER we asked if the pharmacy downstairs sold it (no) so it's not like they thought I was trying to scrounge for stuff.

As far as students are concerned there were a few in my delivery room standing in the back but they asked if they could watch and I said I didn't mind.

Also, the snack situation was really good, lol. At 9pm a cart came around with pastries, yogurts, MARINOS ICE!, etc. But the meals were terrible do I ate from outside. The thing w/ the meals is that a menu comes around in the morning and you choose the NEXT day's food. I gave birth at 8:36 so I missed the menu. Then the next day there was no point in filling out the menu b/c I was leaving in the morning. So technically I could have chosen that one breakfast but I didn't bother...

The deli downstairs is pretty decent and really cheap even though I think it was all Boar's Head meat.

Overall my opinion is that NSUH is wonderful for emergencies i.e. they have THE BEST specialists, newest technology- BUT the regular care I got from the nurses kind of stunk and that was annoying since I was so quiet/ not needy and just stayed in my room with my DH who pretty much did EVERYTHING for me that a nurse would do- hey maybe that's why they didn't feel the need to help, lol.

Oh and I didn't like their pads- I brought women's depend's disposable undies and thought they were great.

If you have any othe Q's I'm glad to try and answer!
