Where do you live? I found some places (in Long Island and Queens) that don't cage the animals. They get to socialize with other dogs all day so they end up having a great time!

I am not sure if you have any Pet Smarts around where you live, but some Pet Smarts have a "Pet Hotel" inside of the store. I just dropped off my dog at the one in Huntington for a week in the beginning of February, and I really believe she had a great time. The people who work there were so professional, and when I called during the week to see how she was doing, there were so helpful and told me everything...like if I called a daycare to find out how my child was. I was very impressed with their services and would definitely recommend them if you have any near you. They also have play time and treat time...so they are not locked up all day.

My honest opinion, from someone else who treats their dog like a child, I wouldn't do it. I know tons of people kennel their dogs to go away but I could just never do it. But I'm a huge worrier, I was afraid to even leave her with my parents when we were on our HM. You know better what your dog can handle and what you'd be comfortable with.

I know it's hard. We always took my family dog to a dog camp, but it was in MD. Maybe you could inquire into local pet sitters. There are many people that offer this service. It's a hard decision BUT, this may be one of your last vacays with DH before you are pregnant, have a DC, etc. He wants to do something carefree for just the 2 of you. I would go for it!

I know alot of people who have found dog sitters/ walkers on this website.
As for me I probably couldnt leave my dog in a kennel... I just couldnt do it. But I am lucky and have my parents very close, they watch him almost every week day (we call it his doggy daycare!).

Honestly, I love my dog to death and while I don't like putting her in the kennel I would rather do that then miss out on a vacation. I know it might be hard but realistically she will probably be fine. I think you should go away and enjoy the time with your DH.

This is sitters that are part of National Association of Professional Pet Sitters, or NAPPS. This site was highly recommended by our dog's trainer. At one point we were looking into a dog walker. When we go away, we're lucky enough to leave our dog at my parents, but I'd consider one of these if we couldn't.

Thanks so much for that website!! I am going to set it to favorites for other dog services. I was just looking to see about boarding and it seems like 99% of the places in my area come and stay in your home overnight. DH and I aren't comfortable with that. But it seems to be the new thing. What do you guys feel about that?

Awwwww Thanks so much!! Very sweet of you. After reading everything here, doing some more research on boarding, long conversations with my mom and DH we decided to go away and put her in a kennel. I'm going to have DH drop her off so I don't have any images of her crying in my head. Then enjoy our nice warm weekend getaway!! Thank you again for all of your suggestions.
