Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
I really want to take a class, but I have so much cr@p going on and none of the days are working.
I have been reading a lot and not sure if I am going to regret not taking a class, with DH being an accountant hes been working 7 dyas a week and then the other spare time doing our nursery! He is just overworked.
Any suggestions?

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
I am planning to BF. We took a baby care class that spent about 10 minutes on BFing. That is going to be it. I am hoping the "it's a natural instinct" statement is true.

maybe there is a video you can rent. I would look into that if your schedule is so booked. Plus, I am sure they will help you out with it at the hospital before you bring the baby home.

I breastfed my DD and didn't take a class. The nurses in the maternity ward basically showed me what to do and they were great!

I'm with you. I just don't have time for a BF class. I'll be trying to BF but not taking a class. I don't remember my ex-SIL taking it and she breastfed and was taught by the nurses.

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
I haven't taken a class yet but at north shore manhasset they have a bfing class every morning and all the mommies in post-partum are invited. I figured that's got to be the best- I mean using ur actual baby and not a doll, lol.

I am breastfeeding my daughter and never took a class. I had the laugh and learn DVD but she was almost a month early and I never got to watch it. It's working out just fine!

ME! I plan on BFing and not taking a class. I'm just going to ask the nurses at the hospital when I deliver.

We didn't take a class, read a book or watch a video! DS is 9 weeks old and BFing has been going great

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
I'm not taking a class, and I am going to BF. Apparently there is a video called Laugh and Learn Breastfeeding. I didn't check it out yet, but someone told me that it is helpful. We'll see!

I am planning of BF and wanted to take a class but I don't have the extra cash to spend on it nor do we even have the time.
I've read a bunch of books and I am going to have the nurses help me out.

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
Also just so you ladies know...South nassau hospital has the breastfeeding class for $30 per couple which I thought was a great price since it seemed to be more at LIJ.

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
as a BTDT mom i would say...save your money you dont need the class. Everything they tell you there the nurses will tell you at the hospital and you can find online or in magazines. In my bf class we mostly just watched movies on how to get the baby to latch....i took it bc it was offered free through my ob.

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
I am taking the class winthrop offers w/out DJ because his schedule doesn't allow it right now. So its only $20, I don't think its absolutely necessary, but since this is #2 and I won't be doing a birthing class or anything else I figured why not. Maybe I won't chicken out like I did with DS.

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
I got NOTHING out of the class. I would wait until the baby is born and rely on the LC at the hospital or hire your own LC once you have the baby. Read a couple articles so you have an idea what to do.

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
I took the class b/c I was on the fence about EBF and needed more information. It was cheap, $35. It may depend on the presenter, but I had a very entertaining and helpful LC. With that said, she did say the support at the hospital is terrific. So, if you can't take it, I wouldn't worry. I am delivering at South Nassau, so I can only speak for them.

I'm reading :)
Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers
Very insightful, based on a ton of research, I've learned so much, and its made me a lot less nervous about breast feeding.
I heard the nurses do a great job with teaching you at the hospitals.

Re: Anyone BFing and not taking a class?
My lamaze and Bradley instructors both said that a BF class was a waste of $$. They suggested doing some research on kellymom.com. I don't know where you're delivering, but Winthrop has lactation consultants on staff and I've heard the nurses are also very helpful.

I didn't take a class and I turned out fine with DD. The hospitals usually have lactation specialists on sight that can help you.
