New and pysched!!

Hey guys, I have been on the pill for several years. My husband and I planned on starting a family in about a year. However this week I happened to take a pregnancy test (because I wasn't feeling "right") and it came back positive with a very very very faint line. I then took 4 more tests and they were all negative. So I am 99% sure I am out. I will be sure once I get my period next week. Since this occurred we were so excited at the thought I could be pregnant that we are thinking about starting a family sooner. Since I'm kind of still on the pill we wanted to wait the proper time before trying to conceive. Do you know how long I should wait? I thought I heard 3 months which would bring us to May....seems so far away. I look forward to getting to know some of you guys!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon FOR ALL OF US!!!!!

I like your attitude. Chat Icon

It takes some time for your body to regulate off BCP but IMO why wait.

The 3 months is really just to help regulate your cycles--making it easier to pin point ovulation, and thus, conception.
The BC pill is out of your system the following day, however for a lot of us, it takes a little while for your cycle to return to normal. Most doctor's give 3 months as a general guideline, but it can be much more--or less.

My doctor told me that 27% of women ovulate on the pill. Given your experience this past week, I'd say it's possible you're in that percentage. In that case, I'd venture to say that you might not have a hard time getting back on track.

HTH! And good luck!! Hope your stay on this board is short and sweet Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Wow thanks ladies! Why even ask a doctor you guys are so knowledgeable!! I didn't mention before but I also have PCO's so if I was/am pregnant it would be a miracle in my opinion! Thanks for helping me understand the whole BCP and 3 months! I guess we can start right away! Given I ovulate.....

Welcome! Hope you're stay here is short and sweet!

And just to be sure I'd test again tomorrow with FMU (first morning urine). The 3 subsequent negative tests after a faint positive could just mean that you're so early on and the pregnancy hormone was too diluted to be detected. Also use a FRER test. They're the best at detected pregnanc early. Good luck!

Had you not been taking the pill consistently?

With PCOS, your cycles may be irregular which makes ovulation tough to pin point. I'd just see how your first cycle goes, but you don't have to "not try" if you don't want to.
My first cycle off BCP was 51 days Chat Icon, while my good friend got pregnant 3 weeks later!

I didn't skip a pill and I was taking the bcp regular. About a month ago I was on heavy duty medicine because of an ear infection and the pharmacist said that the medicine (augmentin) will interfere with my BCP. However my doctor said this wasn't true. So who knows. I am going to ride it out until I get my period (Wednesday)

We started TTC right away once I came off the pill. "They" say to wait 3 months, but that's really just so your cycle can regulate. There's no negative to starting right away.
