What's the deal with aspartame?
I asked DH to buy me yogurt and he bought me the light and fit with aspartame, are you girls avoiding it?

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
I've been avoiding all artificial sweeteners because it has unknown effects. But they say everything in moderation so it should be fine if you have a yogurt here and there.

I try to minimize it but some things (like my Fiber One) has it and I will still eat that.

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
Okay I hate wasting food so I think I am going to eat one a day until it is gone and then ask him not to buy it again.
He went out and bought me SO MUCH STUFF to eat so that I don't pass out again
DH and my mother have officially teamed up against me and I will be eating every two hours at LEAST if it kills them

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
Its found to cause cancer in lab but when used in very very large amounts. They tell you to avoid it because they think it might have a chance to cause ill affect on a developing fetus. No studies have ever shown any ill effect on humans, pregnant or otherwise.

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
Tilde, first, that was so cute of DH!
Second, people with GD eat aspartame. You are probably better with Splenda. I've heard things such as the chemicals caused cancer in huge amounts in lab rats and i once heard that it can artificially throw your glucose level.
That being said, moderation is key.

Aspartame is a chemical, so it's a no no. That's why diet soda is out too!

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
I was just going to post the same question--I just noticed my"sugar free" oatmeal has aspartame in it. I'm so upset I didn't notice in the store. I try to avoid it so I'm thinking I'll eat this box and then just buy the regular rolled oats.
Please let me know what your doctor says tonight!

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
Anything that says sugar free and tastes sweet usually has it- so be careful. My OB is adament that I not have any articificial sweetners and I had Gestational Diabetes with my first pregnancy so you can imagine how tough that was. My endocrinologist and nutrionist that I was assigned when I had GD with my first both said no to all articificial sweetners except to occasionally using splenda.

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
I was told to avoid it. I was originally eating the Dannon light and fit but that had aspartame in it so I switched to the Stonyfield organic fat free and my OB said that was perfect.

Please keep us posted. I have been eating it almost every morning without even realizing there's aspartame in it.

Re: What's the deal with aspartame?
I avoid aspartame but admit to a Sprite Zero maybe every other week. Splenda I am a little more liberal about.
