Need advice on stopping bad language with 2 YO.

DS is 2 and just this past week he's started yelling "Shut off!" at us when he doesn't like something we do or say (his version of shut up). I know he got this from school because we never use these words in my house. What can I do to get him to stop? We tried time outs for a few days but that didn't work and now we are trying to ignore it to see if he will stop.

This morning when he said it I responded, "what would you like to shut off, the TV?" He said "no" so I said "would you like to shut off the light?" and he said "yes" so I did.

I don't know what to do. Should I just continue to ignore it? I do want him to know that it is unacceptable behavior.

At 2yrs old I would ignore it along with the redirection your already doing.

I would either put a dab of tabasco sauce, or vinegar on the tip of his tongue. Thats what we did when my middle one started biting. Let me tell you, he stopped FAST.

Edited to add: we did this on the advice of our pediatrician.
