Help me figure out what to do with this space!

We have a huge window in our living room and we're sick of how the table and chairs look in front of it. We want to do some type of seating, but not take away from/block the window all that much.

Here's a pic of the area as it is now and some other pics of the room. We have a tudor and would like to keep it traditional style-wise (nothing too modern looking)

Re: Help me figure out what to do with this space!

I'd move the two chairs in closer to the table and keep that a sitting area and leave that window area open, maybe even leave that table there?

or, a low bench? real low, it'd have to be, i guess.

or, keep that window the focal point and leave it totally open?? it's beautiful as it is too.

i guess i didn't help much.

sorry

are you or your DH handy? Id build a low bench the entire depth of that area. Then on either side of the window and across the top, Id do built in shelving. A big comfy cushion on the bench with lots of pillows.

Oh and maybe hinges on the bench top for extra storage.

or you could just do one big chaise lounge with a smaller accent table next to it, to cozy up, read a book and have a cup of coffee. Or a really overstuffed chair with an ottoman and a small accent table? If you went this route, Id angle them into the room.

I totally agree with Eddiesmommy....both of her ideas. I have always wanted a window bench area. You can make it low so it doesn't take away from the window. But a nice chaise would also be a great choice. GL deciding. Beautiful window.Chat Icon

Bench if you don't want permanent, or window seat.

Great ideas! Chat Icon Our tiny dog loves to lay on the window ledge and neither DH or myself are all that handy (to an extent we are, but not enough to like build a window seat or bench or anything...) I'm thinking maybe a chaise and a little coffee/accent table?

Does anyone want to help me find furniture now that won't break the bank? Chat Icon

I love the idea of a bench but that laege looks pretty low. I'd probably hang a pretty stained glass panel and do a chaise like you suggested with a small table in front. I actually like the look you have going now but maybe a more decorative table? Like a mosaic?
