who knew it could happen, but HOMEOWNER INSURANCE RAVE
there really is some truth to the saying, when it rains, it pours.
3 weeks ago I gave birth to my son (some of you may know, others of you may avoid the breeding boards like the plague )
on dr's orders, i wasn't allowed up to my house after 39 weeks so dh and I hunkered down in brooklyn.
about a week after Luce (Lucian Paolo for avoiders )was born, we decided to drive up to our house and introduce him to his home.
what we introduced him to was a flooded basement. NO HEAT. NO WATER. NOTHING. just about 12 inches of water thoroughly effing things up down there.
apparently, our sump pump failed and stopped pumping water out.
we called our heating contractor and they came to evaluate. he gave us virtually NO HOPE that it could be covered (said he spoke to someone at our ins co and they said we didn't have flood insurance so it wasn't a covered loss)
Just to make sure, I decided to call. and VIOLA. not just coverage...but AWESOME coverage.
STATE FARM rocks.
not only are the covering the work of our heating/water system contractor, they are also covering the water damage people (Servepro...actually, STate Farm contacted THEM for us) they are also covering the $$ we put out for the utility pumps we bought to suck the water out, they offered to pay for DH"S LABOR while he was sucking the water our, AND they will even pay for any increase in our Electric BIll if Servepro has to use blowers to dry out anything.
we went from having to pay THOUSANDS out of pocket to merely having to cover our deductible.
I am not sure in the grand scheme if State Farm is a more expensive insurance company or what...but I'll tell you something, I have never been happier after getting off the phone with an insurance company of ANY kind.
For those looking for homeowners, really give them a look see. I am more than pleased by the swift and expedient service and the wonderful protection and cushion they have provided my family.
THANK YOU STATE FARM. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

Congrats and welcome to little Lucian (he's beautiful - I just took a peek on the Parenting board)!! We also had an awesome experience with State Farm with major water damage. Glad it worked out!

So glad to hear everything worked out! DH and I would have loved to go with state farm but they weren't writing any more policies in Nassau. Hopefully my insurance will treat me just as well! (we have Progessive)

Very good to know! We also have state farm but thankfully haven't had any issues yet where we've needed them.
and congrats on the little one! there are those of us that don't go on the parenting boards yet so aren't in the loop on these things

Allstate was awesome for us when a pipe burst doing major damage and flooding everything.

as soon as they hear the word flood they say nope not covered if you don't have flood insurance.
Link
I just saw something about this on the news. they were saying you have to say the correct words or else you may be denied (ie: never say flood, say water damage) so silly though
so glad you are getting it all taken care of!

Re: who knew it could happen, but HOMEOWNER INSURANCE RAVE
Usually if the water comes from inside the house (broken pipe, for example) it's considered water damage and it's covered. If the water comes from outside the house (heavy rain or rising flood waters, for example) then it's considered flood damage and not covered. I'm sure there are some exceptions but that's the general rule.

Re: who knew it could happen, but HOMEOWNER INSURANCE RAVE
That's great. I had water damage to my wood floors from my baseboard and put in a $2500 claim to Allstate--they dropped me and State Farm wouldn't pick me up because of the claim I'm glad it worked in your favor--someof these companies are really horrendous!
