Jewish Ladies - When to look for Mohel?

Ladies - when should I start looking for Mohels? Did you meet with any or just go with a recommendation and call someone? I'm also Chat Icon so what do I say - "I Might need you?"

Also - if you don't mind sharing, can you tell me the charge? You can FM if you want!

Many thanks!

Get some recommendations (I've used both Dr. Diamond and Dr. Greenbaum and recommend them both) and take their phone #'s to the hospital.

If it's a boy give them a call. You can get in touch with them ahead of time if you want to know more about how they do the ceremonies. Just email them and tell them when the baby is due and to make sure they will be around (mohels do take vacations!).

I don't know how religious you are, but it might be a good idea to research the ceremony a bit before the baby is born so you understand what is going to happen. I've been through 2, they're a piece of cake, but it can be overwhelming to try to research everything the week after the baby is born.

It's around $700.

I rang my local synogogue (reform) when I was about 30 weeks pregnant, I knew I was having a boy, so I knew I had to have one lined up. Once he was born, my dad took care of everything for me.

This time I am finding out so I can be prepared also.

We used Dr. Greenbaum, she was great. Everyone was impressed with her.
I think we paid $700.

Re: Jewish Ladies - When to look for Mohel?

I had asked everyone I knew that had a boy who they used. Then, I asked each mohel the questions that were important to me.

I narrowed it down to a list of three that I was comfy with, it's important to have a few in case the one you want isn't available when you want them.

Mine charged $850. He donates the money to charities in Israel. Your insurance may pay you back for part of the fee so be sure to ask!! :)

Pretty much what the other posters said... start looking into it. Def get recommendations and you gotta bring the Mohel's # to the hospital. DH and I were sooo unprepared so we actually got recommendations from someone else who delivered at our hospital. I was so out of it so DH did all the work. Funny thing is we wound up using the same Mohel that did DH. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon It was cute b/c he said that in his speach.

We didn't know what we were having either. We ended up getting recommendations from the local temple after DS was born.

Thank you, ladies. I went to a bris that Dr. Greenbaum performed and I was very impressed. Unfortunately, that's not going to help me in Florida!Chat Icon

You can call them ahead of time even if you do not know whether you are having a boy.

My OB is a Mohel so we "hired" him as soon as we found out we were having a boy! This time its a girl and he may also do the baby naming.

I called a couple around 2-3 month before DS was born. I went on recommendations of people and finally decided on one mohel. He told me to call him the day I gave birth to my DS so we could figure out everything.
