inducing before due date due to large baby UPDATE- 2nd update

my first son was 9lbs 10 oz had an easy birth he came 2 days early wasnt very hard to push out- pushed for 2 hours needed no assitances.,


2nd baby boy measuring 7lbs 2 oz at 36weeks.

Dr scheduled induction for 10-9 original due date is 10-20 would you go for it??

my cervix is soft, Im 1 cm dialated and having irregular but painful contractions for a few weeks. Part of me wants to get the show on the road and likes the idea of having a set date with having a first kid to worry about he whereabouts as well. and the other hand I hear so many horror stories.

my dr belives that I will be a successful induction and that it wont lead to c section due to my past history

also he doesnt want the baby to get to over 10 lbs which could happen if I go to my due date.

Im confused

SO yesterday i went into the dr for another sono and the baby had only gained .3 oz since last week and that is he is slighlty above average not huge as they thought. So i said I wanted to postpone the date for the induction and they are seriously giving me a hard time about it. Saying how they do inductions at 38 weeks all the time and why would I want to postpone... So i think Im just going to cancel and let nature take its course.

So dr called me back and said there is no other day avail besides the 9th and so its wither that or natural labor- I took natural labor. GeeZ

I def. wouldn't personally - that is much earlier than your due date.

At 33 weeks this baby was measuring close to 6 pounds....I am having a c-section two days before my due date. (Had a section with my first son also)

I would def. hold off a little longer - especially since these sonos can be off a pound either way!

i would definitely due to my past experience with being induced with DS. it's a personal decision

I would do an induction, but not as soon as the 9th as that is more than a week before you are due. Can you do it at 39 weeks? Did you go early with your other children?

its 2 days shy of 39 weeks which my dr says is fine. I went early with my son too. the sono is measuring 2.5 weeks ahead my entire pregnancy and they are still expecting an 8.5-9 lb baby on the 9th. the dr reccommends this to prevent c section. I think Im going to see how my next few appts go and if I progress at all natuarally and then figure it all out.

I wouldn't do it. From what I understand the risk of a large baby is greater for the mother than the baby.

I had two inductions but always scheduled mine after my due date. Almost a week after for both.

i felt comfortable that way - i never scheduled it before - i personally wouldn't do it - but since you were successful with your first - im sure you will have no problem this time around.

I would go for it. I was induced with both my kids. Ds was at 38w and dd at 38.5weeks for medical reasons. Both were vaginal deliveries with no complications. With dd I walked in 2cm and 50% effaced. She was born 7 hours after the start of Pitocin. It was great not having to worry about ds while having dd since we were able to plan ahead of time.

Given your history of pushing out a large baby I don't see why it's such cause for alarm to make sure you deliver early. I can see why you would go for the induction though given it might be easier with making child care arrangement since you have one at home now. But who knows you can go into labor even before your induction date!

That seems really early. They thought DD was going to be over 10 lbs and they didnt induce me until I was a week late. She wound up being 9.7

Sounds like so many OB's I know. Clearly you are trying to interrupt their attempt to keep OB a m-f 9-5 job. How dare you look out for you and your baby's best interest

they shouldnt be forcing you to do anything. my dr had me in a panic b/c at 30 weeks i was measuring 33 weeks and he was est. at 4 1/2 lbs. Right away it was like "oh you may want to consider a csection." Umm..how about we see how things go in the next few weeks???

my sono at 34 weeks showed 6 lbs, but his head is what is measuring ahead. So the new dr was fine with that and we're going to just see what happens.

do what you're comfortable with. 3 weeks is kind of early to be scheduling induction if growth is the only reason. and a lot of times those weight estimates are wrong.

Good for you! Don't let them pressure you into something you are not comfortable with. As PP said, godforbid you interupt their 9-5 schedule.

A large baby is not a medical reason for induction. I can't understand why your Dr is being such a bully about this. Sorry you have this added stress and pressure

I'm glad you stuck to what you wanted and didn't let them pressure you.

It'll all work out in the end, the baby will come out any way you do it!

I think you made the right choice. Growth sonos can be WAY off. they estimated my DD to be over 8 pounds and she was barely 7.

Based on your new update, I would be pizzed at your doctor. That is just ridiculous. He is planning the birth of your child based more on his convenience than what is best for your child. Good luck either way.
