Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
IMO, little girls should not be wearing makeup (playing dressup aside)

Not for it at all. Little girls are pushed to grow up way to soon these days.

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
Seriously, I don't think it's anything for anyone to even think twice about. There's a thousand reasons why someone would let their kid wear lipstick, even at a young age. Like Barb said, you have to pick your battles sometimes. Do I put lipstick on my kid? No, but that doesn't mean it isn't something someone else uses as a bargaining tool or just for fun. To each their own.

I would let her play with it in the house, but I don't think I'd let her go out in public with it on. That being said, if it was a "pick your battles" issue, like PP have mentioned, I might let her.

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
I probably would not think it's a big deal but I would hope that it is not an every day thing. I don't think it is much different from having a child's ears peirced. I was definitely allowed to wear lipstick sometimes. I had a lot of pressure to do well in school and it was nice to be allowed a fun thing.

Are you sure she was wearing red lipstick? I am asking because my cousins DD has bright red lips, I mean BRIGHT red and it always looks like she is wearing lipstick. My cousin is very self conscious of it because she knows people will assume that she allows her DD to wear lipstick and have an opinion of it.
At 4 years old, no I would not allow my DD to wear any makeup. I have no issues with nail polish, I think it's cute on little girls.
Yes. I am sure. And the caption mentioned it.

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
Lily is the epitome of a little girl....she falls into every stereotypical category possible....including the love of makeup! She watches me get ready in the morning, and we brush our teeth together. Then I put my makeup on. She watches me and plays with my makeup....and sometimes, she even does her own (remind me to show you the picture after she grabbed my eyeliner! ) I was thinking of getting her a little play makeup case of her own so she can play with it as I put my makeup on. BUT....she will not be wearing makeup in public for a loooooong time. I don't like the look of it on little girls. And I believe makeup should be used to accentuate natural beauty....and her beauty needs no help!
They're little for only so long...I plan to enjoy it and not rush her into adulthood just yet!

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
No I don't put makeup on Ale. If we were going out and she saw me putting something on, maybe I'd give her a tiny bit for fun. But I rarely wear it these days so all she sees me put on is lipstick.
But, she watches me put on deodorant and she insists I put some on her
Oh and I do, because 1. I barely touch her with it but she likes it and 2. I have a 14 year old niece who refuses to wear it ---can you say yuck!!?? I don't ever want Ale to hate deodorant!
Not that Ale would ever be stinky mind you -- her sweat will smell like rose buds and her feet like orange blossoms I am sure!

I have to put deodorant on Lily also She giggles like a maniac when I do, so very little actually touches her!

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
Id like to see Abby get past her father with make up on her face. It would be like an ant walking through the Great Wall of China.
Abby is a girly girl as well. She is dainty and petite. I could dress her in anything and she will always look girly. She does not know what make up is at this point, but I am sure she will soon enough.
If she is anything like me, she will get a cheap-@ss Maybelline black eyeliner to put on the inside of her eyelids once she gets to middle school and take it off before she gets home.
I do not see how make up compares to piercing ears. To me, make up puts out a much more sexual vibe. Watch one episode of "Toddlers and Tiaras" when the spray-tanned 4 year old puckers up.

I do paint DD's toes (since I paint mine) but I don't wear ANY make up so she doesn't even know what it is.
I do let her put on one of those berry scented chapsticks for kids since I wear chapstick. I didn't realize it was tinted when I bought it, so I tossed it and got her a clear one. She really doesn't care after the first day or 2. Like everything else the novelty wore off fast.
I'm not a fan of makeup especially on children. I think their natural beauty is so wonderful that I'd never want to taint it with makeup.
ITA-but I have boys so hopefully no lipstick for them

I absolutely, 100% agree with choosing your battles. However, this IS definitely a battle I would fight. My DD will not be allowed to wear makeup outside the house for probably a decade, I'm sure.
These are my feelings too

Julia is 4 and I put my lipgloss on her all the time, she looks adorable and I don't see anything wrong with it, but thats all she wears.

My dd is almost 4 and almost every day when I'm getting ready for work or to go somewhere she watches me put on my makeup. So if she asks, I usually put a little blush on her cheeks and a light/sheer lipstick/lipgloss color. She does wear nailpolish regularly.
I dont mind it, but i also dont want her to look like a clown.
AND i make sure I tell her that she does not need makeup to be beautiful, but she wants to be like mommy I guess
(I would never let her wear bright red)
Same here plus I don't own those colors...if my DD wears lipgloss for fun it's sheer nude or clear gloss....nothing tacky

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
I probably wouldn't let her until she's 13--a little lip gloss then or something
This reminded of last week when I was getting ready, putting makeup on, DH was holding our DD (7 weeks old) and says to her
"Mommy's putting make up on, when you're 7 or 8 sweetie, you'll be doing the same thing"
I'm like "7 or 8??????"
He responded, "I don't know what age you put that stuff on"
LOL He's in for some surprises with DD

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
I will paint DDs nails & a couple of times I've let her wear some pink blush or eye shadow, but we weren't leaving the house. She got her own "lip stick" for her birthday which is really just chapstick.

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
i can totally see that scenario as a "chose your battles" type of thing.
in general, no, my DD will not be wearing any type of make up. until she is old enough to make her own decisions...and that won't be til she's like 20

Re: Make Up and Little Girls..
i do not allow my DD (soon to be 4) to wear make up . The only time she wore it was for her first dance recital this past june, we were told to put lipstick, eyeshadow, and blush which i put the minimal amount on her anyway. I dont think its appropriate, i dont even allow her to play with it at home , she has gotten make up sets against my will, which i threw away and only allowed her to play with the clear lip gloss it came with. i also do not allow her to paint her nails unless its pink or purple, or a light color. maybe im too protective but i feel like shes little and doesnt need to be wearing that stuff, soon enough she will be grown up and right now i want to keep her a kid.
