Have you ever heard of this?
A friend from work was telling me that she recently took a pregnancy test and saw a faint line on a Sunday. On Monday, she took another pregnancy test, then took a digital one - and both said pregnant. Her period was due on Wednesday. She didn't get it so she tested again and it said not pregnant. She went and got blood work (since she had a MC a few months ago) and the blood work came back saying she wasn;t pregnant. How could you get a positive PG test a few times and not be pregnant? could the blood test be wrong? I've never heard of that before.

Re: Have you ever heard of this?
Yeah, I agree that it was most likely a chemical pregnancy. She should talk with her doc, though...

Re: Have you ever heard of this?
It's most likely a chemical pregnancy (VERY early miscarriage). I had one in May. I had BFPs 3 days in a row. Went for bloodwork the day after AF was due (AF never showed but had spotting) and HCG levels indicated that I was no longer pregnant. AF started the next day. Technically it was only 2 days late and if I hadn't tested so early I would never have known it was a checmical pregnancy.

I don't know what it means but she said her HCG level was 3. What does that usually mean? Could a chemical pregnancy happen that early?

HCG level has to be over 5 to be considered 'pregnant' by bloodwork... normal levels are 4 and under for people 'not pregnant'...

the numbers need to double daily to be considered a viable pregnancy - when the lab work comes back - it has a 'control' column as to which says what is 'normal' and what is 'abnormal' such as if you went for blood work they can tell you if your white blood cells are HIGH or LOW. For it to be considered 'pregnant' by lab standards and most doctors offices it needs to be above 5 as the lab makes their control anything less than 5 being non pregnant. Sorry if that came out confusing.

Re: Have you ever heard of this?
even if it were a chemical pregnancy the preg. test would still show up preg. until ALL hormones were gone
if someone has a miscarriage a test still shows preg.
i have never heard of this ive heard of the reverse but i guess anything is possible; i dont know why someone would make it up

Re: Have you ever heard of this?
Thanks - I guess that's what she had. Her doctor is going to run more tests on Monday.
