Re: Would you consider Queens....

I live in queens and technically I don't consider it Long Island. But since I live in Bayside which is kind of far out in queens, I refer to going to Sunnyside/Woodside (where a few friends live) as going into queens.

Re: Would you consider Queens....

I call it the city. I grew up in Queens and when I talk about where I am from, I say "the city"- when people ask where I say I grew up in Whitestone and Bayside.

Re: Would you consider Queens....

I'm a Queens girl and I say it is part of New York City since it is one of the five boroughs that make up NYC so therefore it shouldn't be considered as part of LI...otherwise there'd be 4 boroughs instead of 5...Chat Icon

Re: Would you consider Queens....

Theoretically Brooklyn, queens, nassau and suffolk make up Long Island but since bklyn & queens is part of NYC most people consider just nassau & suffolk long island.

Re: Would you consider Queens....

I consider Queens to be part of NYC...because it is a part of NYC. Brooklyn is also technically "on" Long Island, since it's right next to Queens but no one would ever make that association..

I don't call it "the city" but it IS part of NYC. We pay city taxes, after all. When I am visiting my family, I say I am going "out to the Island". It's the same geographically, but that's it.

Re: Would you consider Queens....

I have to be honest, before reading this thread I would have NEVER considered Queens a part of LI

I don't really consider it part of NYC, either - but definitely would lean more towards that line of thinking than classifying it as part of LI

My parents grew up in Queens. Everytime we would visit my grandmother we say "We are going to the city".

I call Queens "the city"... I grew up there, and considered Long Island to be a foreign country that you just happened to NOT need a plane to get to!

Re: Would you consider Queens....

Part of the city NOT long island. I got intoa huge argument with this random girl form school over it. First of all why the hell she was in the green room I don't know, but we were chatting and she mentioned she lived in happauge and I said "oh thats far", and she was SO rude she was like "i guess you don't travel much" I said no, I'm just not from long island, so to me it's pretty far out. Where are you from? "Queens" "that's aprt of long island" "no, not really" "yes it is".. "Whatever, the point is, I was jsut saying happague is far out" "I feel sorry for you, you don't travel much" "no, I just don't travel to BORING places where there's NOTHING to do."

Re: Would you consider Queens....

if you just look at it culturally, people from queens are VERY different from people from LI. For better or worse. JMO
