Re: DH is a hero (and a PSA about pools) - UPDATE!
Posted by Bxgell2 Update: DH spoke to the father - the kid was transferred to CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) - he was kept over night last night for observation but they think he'll be released today. The best news - he's perfectly FINE! No problems whatsoever!
Excellent!!!

Thank goodness the boy will be ok!! Your DH should feel proud right now. He's a hero!
However, this:

All I do know is that no one knew what to do - except DH.
boggles my mind!!! All those people and parents and no one knew how to do CPR. It's shameful. God forbid you decided not to go, or what if you left early? What could have happened to that boy?
Bravo to you.

Re: DH is a hero (and a PSA about pools) - UPDATE!
Thank God for your DH He saved that boy's life!!!
I HATE pool parties because everyone thinks everyone else is watching the pool and well they're not. Adults start watching the kids and then they get involved in a conversation and well
My next door neighbor had a graduation party last year. They have no fence around their immediate pool area. It's not the law but really My DC's were not walking at the time so they stayed in the stroller for the entire time we were there. If the party was this year we would not be able to go... too dangerous.
People spend so much $$$ on the catering, tents decorations, and no one thinks to hire a lifeguard or two
We are invited to a 1st birthday pool party in August. It's for twins and they know lots of twins... about 1 child per adult... I hope they have also hired lifeguards.

This is the part that freaked me out too - eveyrone was just standing there dumbfounded while DH ran over and started recussitating the boy. As it turns out, a couple of the parents were trained in CPR and told Gadi that he did exactly what they were trained in, but they never jumped in when the boy was found.
I guess this just goes to show that it doesn't just take training, but also a calm, take charge perspective. I think, because most of the people who were trained were parents, when they saw a little boy blue and not breathing, they panicked or went into shock instead.

Re: DH is a hero (and a PSA about pools) - UPDATE!
thank God.
and thank God for your dh!!!
I've said it before, BOTH my husband and I will be getting trained in CPR due to our new addtion.
and we will both become lifeguard certified if we go ahead with the installation of a pool in our home.
it's too easy and it can happen too quickly.
god bless that little boy! and serious kudos to your man!

Re: DH is a hero (and a PSA about pools) - UPDATE!
Thank God your DH did what he did
A side note: I jumped into a pool when I was 3, when my mom was changing my brother's diaper...apparently no one saw me jump in except this man across the pool who didn't see me come up, dove in and brought me out out...I blacked out under the water and had to get water pumped out of me....I don't know who this guy was, but to this day I think of how lucky I am someone was paying attention
Kudos to your husband!

Re: DH is a hero (and a PSA about pools) - UPDATE!
Thank God that boy is okay! I agree with the OP...I think parties are even more dangerous because adults get distracted with conversation, etc. or they think someone else is watching their children. Very scary

This is really frightening - my friend's brother is a nurse and he held an informal CPR class at my friend's home not too long ago. DH and I attended and learned everything - we even went through the motions on the dummies and yet if I was in that situation right now I'm really not sure how much I'd remember. So scary!
