Going nuts....buying a house is driving me to drink.

The sellers finally signed their contracts on Wednesday. My attorney just called and said that they put into the contract that we will pay them $1200 for them to finish the tile work and grouting in the bathroom that they started renovating but never finished.

1st of all- when I first looked at the house, the owner said the bath would be finished

2nd- before we signed our contracts we heard that they weren't going to finish it- we didn't sign until we walked through AGAIN with their REA and it was decided that if they just finished the tile work and covered an exposed pipe- we would paint, buy and install the vanity lighting, and put a door on the small linen closet in there.

NOW this.
I don't get it!!! Why is this so difficult? If they were offering us $1200 to finish it ourselves, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

I just needed to vent a little. Chat Icon

So why don't you have your lawyer cross it out, and say that you will take 1200 from them and finish it like you said? Then have them agree to the revised contract.

Re: Going nuts....buying a house is driving me to drink.

i would def fight to have the situation fixed - either you get the 1,200 OR they complete the job......

but in the end, its 1,200 - and if it costs you another 1,200 at least you'll have a house.....i would give anything to have a house right now Chat Icon so hopefully that makes you feel better Chat Icon

but i wouldnt want to let them get away with that either - i would fight for it......

good luck!!

what? no its not- the attorneys are responsible for the contracts and the agreements in them- and there is no way in hell you should have to pay for them to finish the bathroom- they should finish it or give you the $1200 to finish it- they are being unreasonable.

I'm so sorry that they are putting you through this and I really hope it works out- sometimes though you have to be willing to walk away

That's crazy. They should finish the job they started.

I would not agree to that and that is your lawyer's job to fight it.

Alternatively, I would drag up my inspection and find 1200 of issues in the house and request an adjustment.

They are trying to get one over and I wouldn't let them!!!

We've all been there! It'll be over soon! :)

The realtor should be involved. This shouldn't lie solely on the lawyers.

The lawyers don't get involved with negotiating price. They shouldn't get involved with negotiating what's included.

The lawyers job is to protect you once you establish what you feel is included. Since you are obviously disagreeing, the realtor should be communicating this stuff since it should have been the realtor that explained what was included and what wasn't before and after you presented the offer.

seriously though... i think the attorney and realtor have to know what your wishes are and get it from the seller.

in the grand scheme of things 1200.00 isn't that much and the seller should agree to it. could there have been confusion about who was paying the 1200???

Wait did you sign already? How could they add something in after you signed?
