Have you called in sick at work for any
pregnancy related issues since becoming pg? (not including dr appts)
I haven't yet. but sometimes I really just want to.
I need a break and the weekend just doesn't cut it...it's filled with other things to do.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I called in sick once. I needed that day.
It was also the first sick day I had taken in over a year and a half (and that was for when I had surgery!).

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
nope, but there are some days i really wished i had!
I left early 1 day because i couldn't stop puking and fainted in the bathroom. my sister and DH came to get me - 1 drove my car home, the other took me to the Dr.
eta: i don't get a paid maternity leave, so I'm saving all sick and vacation days.
I have a scheduled Dr appt next Monday, and I took the whole day off. I needed it.

Once because my leg was so swollen I couldn't get out of bed.
ETA: I hadn't accrued any sick days anyway so it was unpaid.

I have over 6 weeks worth of sick leave accrued...I NEVER call in sick.
I just feel so drained right now.
I am trying to think of what to make for dinner and I'm like...no...not again tonight.
I am trying to finish furnishing my house, getting 2 different nurseries ready, moving my MIL into another bedroom and painting, fixing that up for her...
we have to get our fireplace opened, we want to have the garage/barn conversion done...
I have all of this swimming through my mind...plus a busy dh who is thinking about the same things....
I know staying home from work for a day won't alleviate ANY of this, but I can't sleep or eat in peace to boot...it's just a little much.
wah wah pity party over.
ETA: then it hits me that these accrued days are the ONLY days I have to be with DC when it comes...and it gives me pause.
what if something happens and I have to go out early...that will cut in even more to the time I have...so I guess I will just suck it up.
thanks for letting me b1tch at bit.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
sounds like you definitely need a day off. I called in sick one time when I felt just could not function and that one day made a world of difference. I would not feel one bit bad about it especially since you havent called in sick in years.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
No, but I do work from home a whole hell of a lot more often since I got pregnant. Thankfully my office is beyond accomodating and will let me work from home 2 days a week, sometimes even 3 if I'm under the weather. It helps SOOOOOOO much.

I called in two days in a row but I was running a fever & could not move out of bed. Fortunately, my boss is so understanding, they don't say a word

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
Oh man...you really need to take a day off....from EVERYTHING!!
I understand your concen though about using up your sick days.
I remember feeling the same way during my 2nd trimester when we decided to move out of our 3 bedroom house rental and move in with my parents. Work was crazy, I had to pack up my home and move everything to storage, I needed start the baby registry...I felt like 13,000 things were hitting me all at once. At one point I just stood in my hallway and cried. I'm sure it was around that time when I took my very much needed sick day. I was emotionally drained and I thought I was going to crack.
I agree, the weekends just aren't enough right now.
Don't cook tonight. Don't cook tomorrow night. Take a few nights to yourself and start fresh this Saturday.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
I have taken 4 whole days off because I was put on a week of bedrest at 7 weeks. Other than that I have left early a bunch of times for my high risk appointments because I can NEVER get them at a decent time.
Luckily- my father is my boss and of course he understands. I don't take advantage, though.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
We don't differentiate here between sick and vacation - I am still early on so I haven't taken time yet, other than for Dr appts. I have worked from home a couple of times in hopes of getting things done (and to sleep in a little bit).

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
No, I never took one pregnancy-related sick day and am due in 9 days. I did start working from home 2 weeks before my EDD.
I had a lot going on--we sold our condo, bought a new house, had closings for both, did major house renovations, but I really didn't want to be treated differently at work. Even now, working from home, I make such a point to do more work than I ever did in the office so they don't think I am abusing it. There were days I had to wake up an extra hour early to give myself time to pass out in the shower and recover but I made it in.
I work for the state and have something like 80 accrued sick days, but I am not using them all for the baby. I didn't want to go down to zero for when we have another baby, so I am going down to .5 status to use only half my days but maintain health insurance since mine is better than DH's. That was just confusing, but basically I won't be using many sick/vaca days though I will be home for 4 mos.

I did on a very icy morning. I was scared to drive and walk in it. I've called in for sonos and my glucose test. Amazingly I think I went to work with my horrible MS every day!

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
no, not a day until i was 36 weeks. some days were so hard, i was so exhauseted chasing after my class. my veins and legs were so swollen.
after all that thouh, then i completely threw in the towel. i am a teacher and had 3 weeks left of school. i decided to use 15 sick days to get me to the end of the year. since i am not allowed to use my sick days to get some part of FMLA paid (since by September I am no longer sick ) I decided to take the last 3 weeks off. i feel a bit guilty being home, but i feel so much better and i am getting so much rest and things done for baby's arrival in less than 3 weeks!

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
Yes, last week on friday.
My back was killing me and i was exhausted on thursday but I got up and suffered thru it.
I woke up the same way on friday and called in. It was well worth it. It definately recharged my batteries. I'm even better this week because of it.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
I havent yet. I am a nurse and work 3 days a week so I plan my doctor's appts around my schedule. PLus, my "morning sickness" is usually the worst at night so I can pretty much get through most of my day without too many problems.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
yes. i had some cramping around week 15/16 and the dr told me to stay home from work, keep my feet up, and drink alot of water. then i had to call them around noon and tell them if it was better or worse. i called work to tell them i had to follow dr's orders and they were more than understanding!
but unless it was for a real and legitimate baby reason, i wouldnt call out. im too scared to jinx it.

Re: Have you called in sick at work for any
Not yet, but I've left early a few times. Now that I know I'll be out after 24 weeks I'm trying to save every day that I have. I will admit that there have been a few days that it was absolute torture getting up and going to work and I was very close to calling in sick.
