Any Suggestions on What to Plant Here?

This area has been empty since we moved in 2 years ago. The previous owners used to have fig trees there and they took them with them.

Thanks!

ETA - not really interested in a vegetable garden just yet...

Re: Any Suggestions on What to Plant Here?

it's good you didn't want veggies... the area looks too shady for that.

to go the perennial route, I would plant (towards the fence) some irises and peonies, in front of that a row of hostas, and towards the front, some annuals like impatiens..... you could also plant some clematis vines to grow up the fence if the fence gets early morning direct sun.....

(irises bloom in early june, peonies in late june, hostas in july, and impatiens throughout the year..... all semi-shade plants... clematis bloom in july... their roots should be shaded, but their leaves/flowers should be in the sun a good portion of the day)

I was going to suggest Peonies too. I love them and they are so low maintenance. Plus they come back every year.

I love grasses so I would do 3 grasses in the back(zebra stripped). Maybe some hostas and daylillies in the front. Definitely perennials so you don't have to mess with it every year.

I would say some hostas b/c they're easy and dont require much work which I love Chat Icon And if you like gardening, you can plant some annuals or perrenias inbetween. I like to add some color.

ETA: I agree with another poster...Iris's would look good there as well.
