To register, or not to register, that is the question...
Obviously this isn't my first baby, and I am uncomfortable with the idea of registering for a second baby.
But I found out that my job is planning an elaborate shower for me, and I don't have much of a say in it. Does that warrant a registry for a new baby, or should I just leave it up to my co-workers to pick out stuff for us?

Maybe speak to who ever is planning it. If there are specific things that you may need/want, I dont see any harm in registering. This way they have an idea of what you want.

I think you should probably do a small registry, or at least ask that gift receipts be included with everything.

yes register even if just for the completion discount that places give you
I registered for the basics that I need, bottles, diapers, an inexpensive convertible car seat, etc

I would register. Even if you put a big ticket item, like a second convertible car seat, some of your co-workers may chip in and buy it for you. Even if people don't buy off the registry, you'll at least get a completion coupon to buy whatever you do need by the time your baby's born!

I'm not registering this time around (even if it is a girl) - I would personally leave it up to your coworkers to get you things.
My mom will have a sprinkle for me if it's a girl (which I don't think it is) but if it's another boy I don't want anything since we have everything we need.

Re: To register, or not to register, that is the question...
I would ask a co-worker, particularly whoever is planning the shower. IMHO, I like when there is a registry to pick out presents. I hate having to decide on my own because I always worry that the recipient won't like it or has different taste than I do. If I was your co-worker I would be grateful if you did a small registry!

Re: To register, or not to register, that is the question...
I would do a registry for the things you need. This is also my second child, my eldest is 8, so i'm having a shower because of the age difference. But we still have alot of stuff left over. We just basically put all of the essentials that we don't have and need on the registry. And a registry is just like a check list for what you need. It doesn't say that someone has to buy that for you. And at the end if theres still some things on there that you don't need you will get the completer coupon and get a discount on them. I would definitly make a registry.

I wouldn't either. If the planner brought it up to me, I would register for a few necessities. JMO.

I did a small registry because my friends always plan a shower for 2nd babies. I just thought of things I needed, it was pretty small but helpful to get things I needed.

I agree, and I have searched or asked about registries for people having second babies that I was planning on getting something for anyway. I figure why not give them something they want or need, than another generic gift?

Do it- if they are planning a shower either way, it's out of your hands. Better to get stuff you need than a bunch of stuff you don't!

Since you know a shower is in the works, even if it is for number two, in this case I would register b/c that way it will make it so much easier for you co-workers. I am sure that they would really appreciate it. This way you can get what you actually want and need. Be happy that they want to celebrate you and the new baby.

I would leave it up to them. Maybe you could put it in someone's ear that receipts would be great.

Re: To register, or not to register, that is the question...
I was on the fence too, but I am registering and this is my second and my DD is only going to be 15 months old when I have this one. I decided to do so b/c as others have said, there may be some items we could use moreso than others which may help those who want to get us something and second - I want the registry completion coupons! Hey 10% is 10% even if you just use it for NB size diapers - LOL.

Re: To register, or not to register, that is the question...
I would do a small one otherwise you will probably end up with lots of gender neutral clothes. I wish I did a small regestry for my second even though they are 15 months apart. Their are things I needed. Little things add up like bottles, pump accessories (if you plan on pumping), sheets, burp clothes, bibs, towels. All those things are perfect price points for co-works I think. They can get maybe a few things and spend $20-$25 if they wanted.
