I think I have blocked out what it was like to have an infant because of the sleep deprevation! 
But if you forced me to make a choice, I would say an infant was harder. I love to sleep and the whole not getting any was harder than anything for me.
DS is 18 months and I am LOVING this age because I see him learning new things every day. Tantrums and all, I really enjoy my toddler!
I completely agree with everything she said above.

I think newborn... I really don't love the newborn phase, crying, lack of sleep, they don't really "do anything", blah blah... I was never a fan

Toddler definitely - although you dont realise that until you are over the newborn phase.

I LOVE the toddler stage. I say this now, since Anthony pretty easy. Not so sure how Mattea will be, since she is a feisty one

I think toddlers, because you are always on top of them. DS was an easy baby, always just hung out and went with the flow. Now that he is so curious, it's exhausting to be 'on' all day long!
Agreed!
DS was such a good NB, he slept really well never had day/night confusion and when he was awake he was just content.
Now at 15 months he is hte happiest kid I know but he never stops for a second and we are constantly getting into power struggles now and the moodswings when he doesnt get what he wants can be long and frustrating for both of us!!!

Same here.
The first 6 weeks were soooooo hard.
I think the toddler days are easier - even on the most challenging days I at least have some good points.

for me, the toddler stage has been MUCH tougher than the newborn stage
I have to agree but only because DD was a very easy baby then she learned to walk and all hell broke loose

Definately newborn.....but mainly because DD was colic and I was dealing with postpartum depression.
DD is just starting to walk, so I might be saying Toddler in a couple weeks!!!!

Right now, I'd say toddler/preschool stage. But who knows what school age and the teenage years will bring.

Toddler without a doubt. When they are newborns they just lay around, you can hold them all the time, keep them in a sling, they hardly move, just need to be fed, changed and entertained for a bit and then sleep sleep sleeeeeeep. Toddler is non-stop go go go from the moment they open their eyes in the morning to the moment you have to convince them they need to go to sleep at night

HANDS DOWN Toddler - my 2 girls were great newborns - toddler age is a different ballgame - much more challenging and more patience needed.

The hardest part was the not sleeping through the night phase. Outside of that, toddler.
I love this stage and enjoy the activity, the playing, the growing the learning, etc. However, it is tougher because she is learning boundaries, is mobile and has a strong will. All great stuff but hard to keep up with.

Ohhh-that reminds me of another thing that is hard about this stage. DD is big on the "no no"
Me: "Claire, tiime for bed"
Claire: "No No"
Me: "Claire, time for dinner"
Claire: " No No"
Me: "Claire, time to come inside"
Claire: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOO"
She is a lovely dream too, but just going through the willful stage

same!
as a newborn he had to be held at all times for the first 8 months. nursing was a PITA.
now, he's just my fun little friend. he says yeah 100 times more then he says no.
I love the toddler stage.

Think back to that first week...round the clock feedings, waking up every 2 hrs and so forth. OMG...as DD gets older it becomes that much easier. I didnt read your whole thread yet but what is it that makes you think toddlers are so tough? (aside from their atitude problems  )?
