Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

I think this is something that is up to you - everyone has their own opinion regarding ear piercing - I do not have a girl, but I know for me IF I ever do, her ears will probably be pierced before she's 6 months old. My ears were pierced when I was 3 months old. I personally think it looks really cute. I have a friend her did her daughter's at 3 months and then I have a SIL her hasn't done it yet and her daughter is 15 months. It's a personal choice... I don't THINK anyone would judge you one way or another! Chat Icon

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

That is totally a personal decision... I'm waiting till Mallory can ask for them... I want it to be something she wants to do and something she'll get excited about, and understand why she is being hurt... it's hard enough for me when she gets her shots.

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

i agree with the other ladies. its really up to you. there is no right time to do it. i got my dd ears pierced at 7 months in her pediatricians office and she got a terrible ear infection. so now the next time she gets them pierced is when she asks for them.

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

I think the sooner the better! I got Julia's ears pierced at 3 mths. She doesnt know where her ears are yet so she cant play with them, now they are healed and I can put different earings in.
My aunt waited till my cousin was like 2 or 3 cause she was too nervous, and all my cousin did was touch them, and ended up getting an infection in one of them and had to take her earings out.

They have special backs now to the earings so it doesnt bother the baby while she sleeps. Chat Icon

Same here. I personally remember it being quite painful one of the many times I had it done so I just can't put Miranda through it. I know its different for everyone but to this day I still remember not being able to sleep on my side because my ears hurt so bad.

Same here. I am having a girl and will not pierce her ears. I had to wait until I was 12 (my parents told me 16 but caved!) and I want her to be older and want them.

Same here. When Maddie asks for them & is old enough to take care of them, she can have them.

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

I got Abby's done at 6 months. I was originally going to get them done at 3 months (after she had a few vaccinations) but she had a cold and I wanted to wait until she was totally healthy. She cried for two seconds and never touches them.

As long as you wait until she has had a bunch of vaccinations it is fine to do and up to you when you feel comfortable doing it.

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

My doctor said to do it either before 6 months or after 3 years old. In between, she said they squirm around too much and it might be too difficult. I'm personally planning on waiting until at least the 3 years. My husband wants to do it now - my doctor said usually the reverse is true. The moms usually want it earlier... but not meChat Icon

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

I had it done by the doctor at 6 months old. I would never let some teenager in a mall pierce her ears.

I'm waiting until my daughter is at least 10 years old. I don't see the point earlier.

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

I would have them done when they are young. Though I do not have a baby yet, ( we are TTC), I remember getting mine done at 6 ( approx. ) and it hurt a lot and I still remember it to this day. JMO, HTH

Re: moms of girls...ear piercing

Me and all of my sisters got our ears pierced for our Communion which was around 2nd grade for them, 4th grade for me because I was behind in my religious ed classes. I'll probably do the same with Emily -- I don't really think it's necessary for them to be pierced now -- but it's totally a matter of opinion.
