I thought it might be helpful to post what blood tests or other assessments which revealed a cause or contributing factor of your infertility.

Perhaps, this could help us to be more specific in requesting certain tests by our doctors.

I would particularly be interested in hearing anyone's experience with autoimmune infertility.

I have unexplained infertility - but, some issues did come up in testing. Two post-coitals showed hostile CM, thyroid testing showed mild hypothyroidism, and an ultrasound/MRI showed I have a small endometrioma, which indicates I have some degree of endometriosis, though the extent of it is unknown.

Re: What tests have you had that identified the cause of your infertility?

My new doctor just ran a ridiculous amount of tests (I think it was like 15 tubes of blood and the lab couldn't even do 3 of the tests!). Plus he sent some blood and my husband's semen to a lab in Boston.

I don't have any results of anything back yet other than the usual, FSH, LH, E2 and the like and DH's semen analysis.

I do know that I've been going to an RE for 2 years, and since I switched this RE has tested me for so much stuff that my other RE didn't even think about. Mostly autoimmune. You have to go to a doctor that really "believes" in that stuff, like the natural killer cells and the alpha q beta (I think that's what its called) stuff.

But honestly, I think most doctors wait until you've been trying for a long time with no success or have had several losses before they'll run the gammet on you.

I had 2 laparoscopies about 5 years ago that showed I had endometriosis. The second time a different doctor did it and he discovered through that surgery that I had PCOS, due to "glistening white ovaries". He ran tests and did a sono and it concurred. After my m/c my ob did the recurrent m/c panel and it came back I have MTHFR, and the RE found I have slight hypothyroidism.

I think that's all.Chat Icon

Bloodwork (Karyotyping) found that I have a chromosomal abnormality (balanced translocation). I also had an HSG with the result being a blocked right tube.

2000: Laproscopic surgey and sonos that diagnosed the PCOS
2007: HSG, CD 3 b/w (all normal except FSH/LH ratios)
TFT's (normal)
Insulin ( borderline high)
Glucose (super low)
DH had SA (normal)

That's it. So far PCOS remains our only diagnosis (although it is called a hyperthecosis variety which is different then classic "string of pearls" type most women have)

I had bloodwork and an HSG and DH had a SA.

We are considered to have "unexplained IF", however, I did have a uterine polyp removed and my FSH is slightly elevated.

Over the period of a year of IF treatments, I had every test under the sun. We started with SA, sonogram, CD3 bloodwork, HSG. We then moved to more in depth genetic tests, antibody tests, and blood clotting tests after I had 2 chemical pregnancies. HTH!

ETA: I also had glucose tolerance testing for PCOS pretty early on.
