this is really a decision for yyou and your DH and family to make..but I wanted to offer my support and give you a few  's!....Keep postiive and only positive things will happen.....I know it is not waht you want to hear but you can love a baby with or without downs syndrome...there are SO many medical advancements that make DS people very self capable...I am praying for you!

i know i've heard of so many stories where techs have mis diagnosed and  comes out fine...i'm sure this is your case! dont' get the amnio done and have faith!

I totally understand how you feel! I didn't have any genetic testing done, but my level 2 showed that the baby had a soft marker for Downs and I lost it. However, I realized, like you have, that I am keeping the baby no matter what and since then, I did alot of research, talked to a few doctors, and started to think positively, and now I barely think about it as a risk anymore. If it is, it is, but in my heart, I don't think it is going to turn out that way. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

This is a very personal choice that is entirely up to you. I'm pretty sure the 16 week AFP/quad screen test also tests for down syndrome. Maybe you could wait to get those results back to make a decision on the amnio.
The not knowing would eat me alive so I would personally get the amnio.
I agree with everything you said. I would wait for the AFP test and go from there
same here.

I didn't want an amnio because like you, I knew we would keep the baby and I didn't really think "knowing" would make me feel better prepared. Wait and see what the AFP says and go from there. If I were going to choose one, though, I would have done an amnio over the CVS, it seemed lower risk to me.
I also went through my pregnancy without my mom. It sucks.

My friend's numbers came back 1 in 5 and she refused the amnio as well. Her baby was perfectly fine!
I am sure all will be ok- those tests have so MANY false positives. Definately don't have the amnio if you don't want to, especially if you are not changing your plan either way.

OK, just re-read you have a 1 in 80 chance -- honestly, not bad odds. Just remember these are screening tests only.

Update: THANK YOU all again for your support and prayers.
I do ask to keep the prayers coming!
I did the AFP tonght..the blood test. Will have results early next week.
Im still not 100% sure on doing the amnio. A lot of me is saying "it is what it is"..Even the dr. himself said, nothing is 100%.
Parts of the test (sono/screening..12 week) came back normal and the other showed the 1 in 80 chance.
Please pray that all is OK and the blood work comes back with great answers!
I am trying to be sooo positive that all is OK. I do have faith! I have faith that my 2 angels (mom and gram) are watching over and will let everything be OK.
