Did your DD say if cell calls were allowed in the class? Maybe that's why he was making a (poor) "joke" in passing?
I know the type though, we had one in my HS, Mr. Mead- everyone LOOVEEEDDD him.
I thought he was a total and complete wanker.

I am very over protective with my dd.
Ii would take it like either she's lying and he's telling her to fess up or almost like hes got her there messing around with her.
Thats not funny at all as far as I am concerned.
It's not like it cannot happen,teachers mess with students alot in the darn news.

I think I'd be firing off an email to the teacher & cc'ing the principal. That is absolute BS.
It's not about trusting yoru daughter. It's about hearing someone lie in the background. I don't find it funny. What if she was being taken advantage of by the teacher or the janitor? IMO, he's lucky you didn't overreact with a cop showing up at school.

I thought about this again last night and was so angry for you. How incredibly unprofessional? When I read your original post, all I kept thinking was, "Omg, was someone taking advantage of her????" That was my gut reaction. And when you go in this morning, be prepared for them to act like you are the one overreacting. Don't step down and don't accept that condescending bullshite.

Eww I'm just reading this. Very poor judgement on the teacher's part. I get that he was trying to be funny but he completely crossed the line. I hope the school acknowledges how inappropriate this was and you get an apology from the teacher. What a creep.

There are so many wrong things that transpires from this.
1/ a teacher implying that your daughter is lying to you.
2/ implying that she is involved with an adult in a sexual way. Which is completely out of line and rather disturbing that an adult male would even think of your daughter in a "sexual" way. Or even think about this particular example. He could have said.... "tell her you are at the mall or tell her you are at Jennifer's house", etc.... BUT NO....he picked a sexual encounter with an adult male. VERY disturbing!!!!! I would be very worried about HOW this man think of my daughter. He should think of her as a child NOT a sexually active woman. This is probably the most disturbing for me to be honest.
3/ A supposebly responsible male adult with my minor child thinking it's funny to lie to put minors in a predicable situation.
What did the guy expect from the parents while implying your daughter was with the janitor? In this day and age, with everything going on, how REASSURING to imply your daughter was an adult male (whether consensual or not!).
Then the audacity to ask you if you trust your daughter after scaring the $hit of any parent on the potential siuation your daughter could be in.
This is VERY disturbing on so many levels.
I would not accept some BS from the school. This is very serious!!!!!

The teacher was completely out of line, I don't care if they are a jokester or not. With the way things are now, you can't be too careful about these things.

This is exactly what I was thinking -- plus add on my disgust at him also undermining your parenting by questioning whether you trust your daughter. If this was in fact the teacher and not another student pulling a prank, I would NEVER let this go. My child would never be allowed in the same building as that man. Even if he is a jokester teacher, what he was "joking" about is creepy, disturbing, unpressional, and so far beyond the boundaries of appropriate behavior with a CHILD.
Teaching is a competitive field on LI. There's no reason for a school to waste a salary on someone who acts like that.

I would be so pizzed and so disturbed by this. One thing is he doesn't even know you and it is very unprofessional. With all that is going on in the world today, even the stories you hear about teachers, he needs to be careful. Even if he is a jokester I don't think I would like that. It is one thing to do it while you are teaching to have fun (not being preverted though) but to do it while a student is on the phone with their parents is uncalled for. It is one thing to make a joke (which I think is unprofessional while on the phone with you. he should keep his mouth shut) but another to say she is lieing and she is really with the janitor. That is going overboard. No teacher should talk that way ever.

I honestly thought you were going to end that by saying it ended up being one of her classmates acting like a jerk to try to get her into trouble .........
That is TOTALLY inappropriate behavior for a teacher. It's one thing for him to joke around w/ his students, it's quite another to make their parents doubt them by making it seem like they're lying .........
ETA: I don't really see how he was making it seem like something sexual was going on though ..........

Completely agree!!!! Good luck this morning Christina I know I'd be having a hard time keeping my anger in check with this situation, but I would let the principal also know I never again want my child in this teachers prescence and that I fully intended to also let the other parents know what transpired with this teacher so they might also request this teacher never be with their children as well.
Who knows what other inappropriate comments this idiot has made that have gone ignored 
Give D a big hug - I am so sorry she was put in this situation as well

ITA. Exactly what I was thinking. You would think he would be OVERLY professional while with a young female student. Disturbing, so disturbing.

He was implying she lied and that she was covering up because she was with the janitor.

I can see how it might seem that way, but I wouldn't automatically take it that way -
Inappropriate on ANY level, but I took it more as 'tell your Mom you're not really @ extra help, I'm just the janitor' - not like a sexual thing, more of .......I dont' know how to explain it b/c it's just too stupid on his part.
