General Q re: newborns
Just curious...
How soon can you take the baby outside? For example, if you have a baby a week before Christmas, could you take the baby out to a family member's for Christmas dinner or is that too soon?
Thanks in advance!

Re: General Q re: newborns
I say it is fine as long as everyone washes their hands befire they touch! But, I also ave 3 kids so my boundaries are not as strict as 1st time Moms. We had a house full of people ont he day we came home fromt he hospital and the entire week after!

Re: General Q re: newborns
I took the baby out 3 days after we were home with her. I just kept a blanket over the carrier (we went to Babies R Us and the pediatricians' office). I also had people over 2 days after we brought her home.

Re: General Q re: newborns
I was a bit more cautious because Hayley was in NICU for 10 days. The only people that came over when we first brought her home was my parents, my brother, my IL's and my SIL. We brought her out to a outdoor party when she was 3 weeks old and we were only there like 1 hour.

Re: General Q re: newborns
Is your worry about the cold or about the people? I wouldn't worry about the cold air, you can warm up the car and dress her in layers so the baby would be fine.
The concern about people is more significant. Would you be forced to pass the baby around to everyone? If so, I'd think its too soon to risk exposure to a cold. If the rest of the family won't insist on touching the baby, it would be fine. Although you will likely be exhausted a week after delivery!!

Re: General Q re: newborns
I didn't take Julia out right away, She was born in July so I didnt have to worry about her getting sick, so we went for a lot of walks. I didn't take her to stores till she was like 2 months. Now that its winter u will have to be worried about cold/ flu season.

Re: General Q re: newborns
Ryan is almost 2 weeks and we have gone out with him 2 times already. I cannot stand to be cooped up in the house especially when I have things that I want to get done. We also had a house full of people the day and day after he came home from the hospital.
