Do you have an umbrella policy
I have car and home insurance with one company and they keep calling me to offer me an umbrella policy and they won't let up!
Is it worth it? Pros? Cons? I have no idea about this stuff. TIA.

yes we have one. we got a great rate on it from our insurance broker because we have out car and homeowners insurance through them.

We have one. It is worth the money. I think our policy is $230 a year and it covers so much including our dog.

We have one to. I think it is worth it...it protects you if you get sued up to a certain amt. My philosophy is that you can't have enough insuarance.

After working for an insurance brokerage and witnessing the carnage of a horrible car accident and subsequent suits, and having the umbrella policy being the ONLY thing that saved this family from ruin, I had to get one.
$200. for an extra million is worth it, to us. All our insurance is with State Farm.

We don't right now because my DH has a horrendous driving record. When his record clears up, we will get one, so for now we just carry high liability limits on our home and auto policies.

I have auto insurance with Geico and homeowners with State Farm. I am going to call State Farm to find out if I have an umbrella policy...to tell you the truth I'm not sure if we do  I'm sure I could get it though Geico as well if I don't. Have you gotten any quotes from any insurance companies?

You should call your SF agent and ask for them to price you out on all three. They were the most competitive for us, but only if we had all of them together, because we got the multi-policy discount.

Yes, we have an umbrella. It's that added layer of protection for us. I did only purchase it when we got a rental property though.

I believe you can only get the umbrella thru the company that you have your auto policy. Why? B/c your auto insurance has to be FULL coverage, fire, theft, etc in order to then get the Umbrella policy. At least this is how Geico works as that's who I have my umbrella and auto with. I must carry full coverage auto (which is more expensive coverage than many people generally carry on their autos) first in order to qualify for an umbrella with them. I would assume any ins company works this way re umbrella policy but I KNOW Geico does for sure.

We have one as well - we have all of our policies through Allstate (they are still writing homeowners in Rockland County).
It is worth it to me for piece of mind.

Average is $284/yr if all with SF.
