Apparently I am rude
I was speaking with some acquaintances this weekend and the subject of baby names came up. I told everyone that we weren't sharing his name until he is born. One of the people I was speaking to said, "Well, that's rude of you. I don't see what the big deal is about sharing his name." I was FURIOUS and explained that we wanted to announce it once he is born and that is OUR preference. This person just wouldn't get it. So, now I am rude.

Well I can totally agree with you and DH... Its a choice and you dont have to tell anyone if you dont want to....
Heck, if that makes one rude well then so be it !!!!

Apparently so am I.
One of my immediate family members has consistently harassed us about sharing the name. At least 3 occasions. This person has made such a big deal already about the name, that they made it an issue when it wasn't. It is so annoying. Why do they care so much? What bothers me is that when DD is born, I KNOW this person will go on and on again about how we kept "THAT" name a secret etc. I told them "It has NOTHING to do with WHAT the name is. Whether it was common or uncommon, I had no intentions of sharing it for MANY reasons." They just don't get it either.
I find it RUDE to be persistent about someone's choices. But I blame myself, should have just said nothing picked out yet.

I had someone say this to me as well....so I gave them two names that were kind of 'out there' and they STILL made a comment on them.
Funny thing is, everyone in my family knew I was joking, but this person thought I was serious. It is like the family joke on them now that they think I am serious.

I can't believe you aren't sharing names, what kind of person are you!!!???!!!
People are crazy, the receptionist at my office told me I was rude because I wouldn't dicuss the specifics of my OB appts with her ...apparenly "everything is great" is not an appropriate responce

Holly it seems that I am part of the same rude club you belong to because we are not sharing names either.
I too was surprised as to how many people gave us an attitude about it including cousins and coworkers etc. My attitude at this point is it is just TOO DAMN BAD. If that makes me rude or a b*tch so be it.
Both of our babies will be here soon and they will all just have to wait like the rest of them. Tough nuggies.

over this past holiday (jewish holiday) we had a few family members press us for the name so DH's said some insanely stupid name that ppl know we would never name our child that shut them up real quick...

Our family - though pestering - is being pretty good about it. It's strangers or aquaintances that get offended!! My best friend's aunt - who didn't even know who I was - was insulted I wouldn't tell her and told me that people say she's great at keeping secrets.
When people pester too much DH tells them we're naming  Barack.

Your not rude at all, some people are idiots like that. Both my sisters' waited until the baby was born to announce the name. I will try my best to do the same but I am one not able to keep a secret for long
