to tell or not to tell

I am so anxious to shout it from the roof tops that I am pregnant again, but I am so hesitant. With DS I told a select few people right away, then a few others after my first Dr's appt and than after 12 weeks we told our families and anyone else we wanted to tell. I know some people tell right away, while others wait. I guess I am just so scared something will go wrong and then I will have to tell everyone that.

Just wondering what your thoughts are.

Re: to tell or not to tell

We told most of our closest family (parents, siblings) after 9 weeks (the Dr visit) and then the rest at 12w. We told a little earlir this time b/c I was showing quite early.Chat Icon

I told my parents and two close frinds right after BFP.

Other friends after drs apt. Coworkers (except my boss who knew sooner) at 12 weeks. I just didn't feel like sharing at work right away.

I told everyone right away for both. God forbid something went wrong, I would want people there for the support.

Re: to tell or not to tell

My thoughts - only parents at first. We even debated on telling our parents, should something go wrong, we wanted to spare them the pain. Our motto is, it doesn't help us to have our parents just as upset as we are. But we did wind up telling them, it was too hard to keep in. We waited until after ultrascreen and first trimester to tell pretty much everyone other than our parents.

To us it's private if we were to suffer an early loss, not really something we would have wanted others to be involved in for many reasons. We are not fans of unsolicted comments, advice, "helpfulness", etc. So until the coast was pretty much clear, we kept it to ourselves. In addition, b/c we were nervous, we also didn't want added pressure if people DID know. Basically, we prefer privacy until our nervousness passed and that was after the first trimester (well, most of it, lol).

We didn't tell our parents and siblings until we were 9 weeks (by that time we'd had 2 dr appts). We told everyone else, friends/family/coworkers after our 12 wk ultrascreen.

I couldn't keep it in. A lot of the people I work with knew that we were doing fertility treatments, so when I got that BFP, there was no WAY I could keep it to myself! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: to tell or not to tell

For DD and this pregnancy we waited till 12 weeks. I had 3 m/c's prior to having DD (2 of them our familiy knew about) and I couldn't bear something going wrong and having to tell them all again.

Re: to tell or not to tell

We have told close family and friends. We plan to tell everyone else when we feel comfortable. Maybe after the heartbeat is confirmed?? Who knows?

We already had one M/C and saw how fast the news spread when we told everyone right away. We'd like to wait a little this time.
