statefarm. when i was shopping for Ins. i also got a quote from liberty mutual (hofstra alumni get a "discount") and it was much more expensive than state farm.
i went to hofstra also and they never gave me a discount for it! i'll have to try state farm.

We went with Amica. When I researched online they seemed to have the highest customer service satisfaction rating. Anytime I call they are incredibly friendly and helpful. Good luck.
i haven't heard of them, but they sound great! thanks!

Another State Farm here - now I'm happy we went with them and not LM - although SF was cheaper anyway.
Posted by ave1024 I currently have GEICO for my car insurance and I know I can get a better deal elsewhere. I just stay with GEICO because they have been pretty good to me over the years with claims and stuff.
Have you been with them for more than 7 years? I got a loyalty discount from them after that time - 1/3 discount. everytime that I think about combining, I know I will never get the rates I get from GEICO now (am I that old that I am getting cheap auto insurance?)
oh, i didn't know that! that's so good to know. i just have to hold out with them a little longer!

Re: We got the letter.....(HO Insurance)
Hi, my wife and I just purchased a home in Levittown. Moving-in in about a month.
We have liberty mutual.
I don't understand, why would an insurance company drop someone?
Too many claims? I dont understand.
Thanks

Companies think that since we're on the water we're going to be hit with a 'Katrina-like' storm - so they dont want to have to deal with paying out; they decided LI is too high risk and not worth the gamble.

Re: We got the letter.....(HO Insurance)
I was the one who posted on this a few months ago. All State dropped us for a number of reasons but the biggest being that there is a high probability that a big hurricane will hit LI. The letter they wrote was patethic blaming everything from Spitzer's administration to hurricane. Our agent said they are phasing out all of LI over a number of years and pick 10 or so policies a month to cancel. Boy are we happy they did! I came on here and Deb (SmileyD) works at State Farm and her quote was so much less then we were paying with All State (both car and home).
I am very happy with our change! DH and I always say thank you All State.

Re: We got the letter.....(HO Insurance)
A lot of companies arn't writing in Nassau & Suffolk anymore due to hurrricane threats. Every summer the percentage for a hurrican increases. There are companies that are writing, but they are tacking on hurricane deductibles. The most common are 3% or 5%, some are now doing 10% so watch out. This would be 10% of your dwelling coverage if a hurricane hits ! This is also why you are seeing your premiums increase so much. Some companies just can not handle the risk of a whole island being wiped out so that is why you get the cancellation letter. The most important thing is to make sure your dwelling coverage is wher eit should be, and you have replacement cost on it, and your personal property.

Our cancellation from Allstate turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Turned out we were way underinsured!!

Re: We got the letter.....(HO Insurance)
Yeah thats another thing to watch out for !! My parents were with Allstate and were under insd by 100k. All of the companies I deal with inspect to make sure you are 100% to value, companies like State Farm & Allstate so not, as far as I know. This is why replacement cost is so important b/c if you are under insured, most companies will give you an extra 25% on top of the dwelling with the replacement cost endorsement. So just make sure you check your policies, because once a claim arises you want to make sure you will be paid for it !

Does anyone know if homeowner insurance companies run a credit check when you apply for a homeowners policy?
I know they run the check that looks to see if you have made any past claims, but I am curious if they actually run your credit like the auto insurance companies do.
Mainly looking to see if they ding your credit with a hard inquiry and check your balances on your credit cards and such. If they do I will have to alter my strategy on this.
I am an ins. agent and the companies do what they call "insuranxe scoring". We dont see your credit report, the check does not impact your credit score and only you can see the inquiry.

Absolutely...and great advice
It's not like the companies just got together and "decided" that a hurricane might hit here. It's well known that we're at risk.
