Re: I'm home after surgery
Deb,
First of all - I am thrilled to know your surgery went well and you are back home
Second - aside from the wonderful advice the amazing women on this thread have already given you - the only thing I can think to add is to maybe take JAG's hand (during some calm time) - place it on your face and say "do nice to Mommy by her boo-boo". When my sister had her sinus surgery my niece was about 18-20 months and it did help a little. The rest of the time, we kept Mommy's face and baby apart until a little more healing happened.

Re: I'm home after surgery
Very happy to hear that you are back home with your family.
In my inexperience, I don't have much to add but think that the suggestions offered here sound very helpful. Good luck sorting it all out. I do think that kids are very perceptive and sensitive when they understand that they need to be so I am sure it will all work out and you will find a way to cuddle without a problem

First of all welcome home, and many
I believe you have been given great advice by the other ladies, and JAG can understand he needs to be gentle around Mommy's boo boo. Like Rachel said I think it is important that everyone is on the same page.

Re: I'm home after surgery
First, I am so happy you're back and recovering from surgery
Second, on how to handle being gentle around Mommy. I know the circumstances aren't the same, but whenever someone in our family is hurting, or if DH has a migraine, etc., I always tell her the truth. At this age, you'll be amazed at how much they soak in.
I will sit her on my lap and tell her, Alex, can I talk to you for a minute about something important? Make sure he's eye level with you when you talk to him.
And I just tell her the situation - i.e. Grandpa has a big booboo on his heart. He had to go to the doctor to get it fixed, but it still really hurts, so I have to ask you to be extra careful and gentle with him until he feels better.
I do the same for when Daddy has a headache and have to ask her to keep her voice down, or for when someone has an injury.
And without fail, she gets it. She has been getting it since she was close to 2. I would approach it first that way. You'll be amazed at how much he really does understand and how he responds.

Re: I'm home after surgery
I agree with ALL previous posters and their wonderful suggestions. As Tah-Wee-Zah said, I feel so out of my league here to give advice.
All I can do is give and lots of thanks that you have come home from the surgery safely and home to that delicious little boy. I continue to for you full recovery!

Re: I'm home after surgery
You're home, You're home, You're home
Bella has hurt me on occasion and lordy loo have I screamed and cried like a big baby, don't worry about that affecting Jag longterm, cuz I am SURE he probably forgot about it.
I am not sure if this is the best advice, but I do know that repetition and reiteration of what you want JAG to do will work...there made bee some YOWZA moments, but maybe do a little more each day...have your parents and DH demonstrate the gentleness.
And in time, all will be well

Re: I'm home after surgery
Welcome home!
I don't have any advice from personal experience as my DS is 10 mos old. Is it possible for any friends to come over and help with taking care of him with you while you are healing? Also, if your doctor is affiliated with any social workers, maybe they can put you in touch with someone who can help out during the day for the next couple of months, even if its just for a few hours during the day or a couple of days per week.

Re: I'm home after surgery
Deb ... as you know, we're just so freakin happy you are HOME
as for this question... I don't think I can really offer you any better advice than the fabulous mommies on this board already have (I read all the posts and think that everyone has great suggestions)...
So for now I just wanted to offer you all my love and hugs and I know that in short time things will all fall back into place with you and JAG. For now you are being the best most awesome Mom you can be and as long as you take your time to recover and heal, the rest will come

First of all, I'm glad to hear you're home and that the surgery is over. My best advice is to sit down with everyone who is caring for him right now and all get on the same page regarding the issue. Ask your parents if they feel comfortable helping in the process of teaching him to not touch mommy's face. I know you don't have a lot of time to teach him this, but at the same time, you DO have a lot of time if your recovery is going to take weeks. They learn quickly, I promise. For now, I wouldn't hold him. I know you want to, but if that is too much of a risk to take while you're swollen and in pain, then you need to think of your recovery first. Also, if you do want to hold him, make sure someone else is in the room so that they can grab him if he starts to get squirmy. I have a 22 month old here, too, and she's rambunctious and squirmy and flailing her arms and legs all the time, so a lot of it is the age. Hang in there, maybe you can set aside time when he wakes up in the morning and when he goes to bed so that you can have those special times with him when he's a bit more relaxed and calm.
I agree with all of this. I also think it's important to be firm with a 2 year old so that he learns the "boundaries." Well, as much as a 2 year old can! I know that's probably the last thing anyone wants to do now though. Hopefully, it was an isolated incident.
Glad the surgery is over and that you're back on the road to recovery!
I totally agree with this and I'm SO GLAD you are back home and doing well
