DVR spinoff: Skip or FF over commercials?
Do you fast forward over the commercials, or jump ahead in 30 second intervals? I use the skip feature, so I don't even see the fast version of commercials. At most, I get a fraction of a second of a commercial. If I go to far, I just skip back until the show starts.

I used to FF in 30 second intervals, now FIOS came out with a whole new DVR system in which you can only FF in 10 sec intervals....I don't like it!

With Tivo you can skip 30 second increments, or skip larger intervals (say 15 minutes on an hour program.)
I'm not sure if Cablevision DVR does this also.

Same here .... we FF 2x through them, and definitely start watching things late so we don't have to watch the commercials.
We tend to get angry at our tv when there's nothing left to FF through

Me too! And I'm the FF pro and DH and just no good at it. Its terrible, in fact.

Cablevision DVR won't let you skip ahead. I just mentioned this to DH the other night. You can rewind 8 seconds but not FF in intervals.
So we use FF to go through the commercials.

My DishNetwork DVR has had the 30 second jump for 5 or 8 years, at least. I just figured everyone had it, since I've had it for so long. I skip a block of commercials in about 2 seconds. For a 2 minute block of commercials, it still takes 1 minute for 2x FF, 30 seconds for 4x FF, and 15 seconds for 8x FF. I don't have that kind of time to waste! I need to get back to the show in under 5 seconds!

Tivo's do it but you have to enable it. It's a hidden 'easter egg'. They used to make it standard, but advertisers got mad and so Tivo 'hid' the feature.
Here is how to enable 30 second skip.

The only part that suxx is that after a reboot or system update, you need to re-enable it again. So bookmark that page. DH has memorized it. LOL
He also tried to set it to different time increments, setting it to 60 instead of 30, for example.. but it would only work for 30 seconds.

DITTO for me too!! I fought DH about getting DVR and now, sigh, it's my best friend!!

We have Comcast and it doesn't have the 30 second skip, but my DH puts in some kind of code to enable it. Cablevsion might have some secret code too.
