I go watch the 3rd show on the bedroom TV. It's annoying.

Re: Cablevision DVR
You can't get around it. The only thing you can do, is watch a show on the DVR that is already recorded, instead of the two shows you are currently recording.

Re: Cablevision DVR
worst rule ever. See if one of the shows has a second showtime- like how Project runway will also show on Thursday nights at 11 PM or whatever?

Re: Cablevision DVR
DVRs that can record 2 things at once are technically two boxes. There are two receivers in the box. It's not a "rule", it's a physical limit. The only way around the 2 receiver limit is to have more receivers.
Just like in the "olden days", if you wanted to tape two things at once, you needed two VCRs, and to record 3 things at once, you needed 3 VCRs.
Currently, we have 2 boxes, and one has two receivers, so we can record 3 shows at once, and watch a 4th that was recorded earlier.

You're the best...seriously...just thought you should know that.
So I'm okay to have a box in the LR and then one in the BR...and record different shows right?

Sure, no problem doing that. We have our two boxes next to each other because we only have one TV at the moment, but the remote controls fight with each other...
The only difference between having them together and having them in different rooms is the length and direction of the cables.
ETA: We're planning on doing the exact same setup you're mentioning, probably later this year.

Re: Cablevision DVR
We just have 2 DVR's. One in the bedroom and one in the Living room. So technically we can record 3 shows while watching a 4th.

Yeah, we record all DH's weird sci-fi crap in the middle of the night if there are normal people shows on during prime time that we want to watch/record.

Re: Cablevision DVR
the only problem with having the two boxes is that you can only watch the shows where you record. I have to plan what shows I'm going to record and on what box to figure in what room I plan on watching the shows.

Re: Cablevision DVR
keep in mind, if you its 9.95 per dvr box + the rental fee (6 bux)
so if you have more then 1, you are gonna get banged for money and fees...
