confused
do you take prenatal vitamins before you are pregnant? or after you have conceived?
i am not pregnant - but so many women in my world are - and i feel stupid asking them such a question.

I started prenatals when I found out I was pregnant, but was already taking a regular womens one-a-day multivitamen before that.......I know a lot of people start prenatals as soon as they are TTC

when i went off the pill i started eventhough we werent ttc-ing bc my obgyn recommended saying that thew pill usually drains u of a lot things so when i stopped it she sais it was good to start the prenatals to replenish and have a clean slate for when we did start trying

I took pre-natals while we were TTC. They can't hurt and can only help you as well. It's worth it to take them IMO.

Prenatal doesn't mean before the pregnancy - it refers to pregnancy (post natal is after that baby's born). However, a lot of women find the vitamins beneficial to take when they are TTC. It cannot hurt - they have a little more folic acid and things like that which are helpful for TTC and of course important to a the early stage of a developing embryo. Some even feel that they are helpful in becoming pregnant. I did take them starting about a month before TTC and I got pregnant right away. That doesn't mean that they are the TTC miracle, but I felt that if I did become pregnant the positive benefits of vitamins would only be good for the pregnancy before I could even test for it. Hope that makes sense. I don't think they can hurt and you always hear that women in their childbearing years should have more folic acid and such. I had used GNC's prenatal vitamin until it was confirmed I was PG, then the doctor put me on Primacare - a prescription prenatal vitamin.

I was taking Over the Counter PreNatals while going through IVF - Dr. prescribed Primacare at my first visit and I switched to them.

I was not TTC when I got pregnant with DS, so I didnt start on prenatals until I had gotten my BFP.
However if you k now you are planning on TTC most Drs will recommend going on prenatals in advance.

I took them for about a week. My doctor prescribed them, but I was so sick and ended up having hyperemsis, so my doctor said to discontinue them. They are really for you, the baby gets all of his/her nutrients from you and the vitamin replinishes them.
When I moved after DS was born, I found the original box from the first prescription fill.

I stopped taking BCP and started taking prenatals. I took prenatals for 6 months before I got my BFP.

i didn't, but i took b-complex vitamins because i had a short LP, and as soon as i got my BFP i bought prenatals and started taking them.
