my husband smokes pot
i'm trying to get prego but my husband smokes pot what should i do? we've been trying for 9months

I would try to get him to stop. There have been studies that show a correlation between pot smokers and decreased male fertility. THC has an effect on count and mobility.

The easy response would be tell him to stop...but I am thinking that you probably have already done that and it didn't work.
First, you might want to think twice about having children with a man who is a drug user. Because if he is using it, your child will be affected somehow...whether he smokes it while you are around a pregnant or he is holding the baby....the smell just isn't good for them.
Try and get him help....the reason I say try is because you can't force it on someone that doesn't think he needs or wants it.
Wish you all the best of luck....but make sure this is something that you really want to do.

Pot may not be a strong drug...but little things lead into big problems. He could get caught buying drug or a number of things like that. So no she may not have been looking for that answer but it is reality.

As long as you don't think smoking pot will have an effect on the child why not have him have an S/A to determine if it might be the reason for you not conceiving. Then take matters from there.

I would try to encourage him to stop, for at least the TTC process.
I also agree with the PP, why don't you have him get some testing to make sure there is nothing wrong with his sperm.

I personally do not see smoking pot as a drug problem...
Trust me, its not  Its really like kicking back with a few glasses of wine...
but, marijuana DOES have an emotional addiction, and he could be trying to avoid facing the issue of wanting to become a dad. Plain and simple.
As Leslie said, there is a connection between pot and reduced sperm count, but not always - you can still become pregnant by a man who smokes
Is he a recreational smoker, or a complete pot head? There is a level of responsibility you do want to consider - recreationally is like drinking wine, as I mentioned above. Consistent is more like an alcoholic... I would just be concerned with how much he would be able to be there for you and the baby if he wants to "check out" all the time...

Well as DH says to me, if Keith Richards and other rock starts could get their women preggo.....
If you think this is truly a reason why you cant conceive, perhaps he would be willing to "put it on hold" for a few mons or limit his use.

If I had the choice between Keith Richard's blood and genetics flowing through my child and that of someone else who has not been exposed to the same pollutants, I would opt for "other" in this case. JMO.

i have to agree with this. while i understand that marijuana is not as dangerous as most narcotics (and i don't know the OP's actual situation) i would be hesitant to have a child with a man who wasn't willing to stop smoking if i asked him to. that's just me, though.

That's the real problem here. It's obviously more than the Pot issue.
I would tend to agree. The OP would have to clarify if she is concerned that she is not getting PG or if she thinks his use of pot is problematic in their relationship.

Play "lets make a deal"
Sperm count is lowered drastically immediately after smoking so make little deals with him . . .
ask him not to smoke all day, then you two can sleep together - after that he can smoke but he has to stop again the next day etc . . .
try to get him to stop for certain days of the week etc.
while smoking DOES lower sperm count, in a healthy male this should not completely stop him from being able to get you pregnant

I agree with this. If it is important to you and DH to get PG, then him taking a break may very well help you all get pregnant. GL
I agree as well. Show him some articles about this and tell him it can make it more dificult for you to concieve.

I have a friend who can't get pg because the Dr says her husband smokes too much pot. It does affect the sperm count in so many ways. If the two of you agreed to start TTC, then I would hope your DH would agree to quit his smoking pot and help you have a healthy baby.
