Daycare moms - how sick is too sick?

I know that when kids start day care they get sick a lot from sharing toys and germs with the other kids. But, how often is too often? My DS has been in day care for 6 weeks and has had constant sniffles and runny nose since the first day. He has also had separate episodes of diarrhea, fever, and strep throat. How long does it take for this to settle down, and at some point, do I need to consider switching day care?

Alexa the first month was the WORST for us. I ended up taking Hannah out for 3 weeks to get her well. Once she was better and strong again, I put her back in. She didn't get sick again (except for some sniffles here and there) until recently which was 6 months later.

We are also coming up on "sick" season. Most daycare babies are sick on and off from November - April/MayChat Icon

I honestly don't think switching daycare centers will help. Did you ever watch kids play? The toy just goes from mouth to mouthChat Icon

Yeah, I know, it just kills me because he never had a fever and was never sick his entire first 9 months until he went to day care. He is finally beginning to like it there so I don't want to take him out, but I hate seeing him uncomfortable all the time, having trouble breathing, on meds, etc. I guess I will give it more time and see what happens (not like I really have a choice!).

I know. I only pulled her out because she was young (4 months) and had a really severe and dangerous infection that if not treated properly could spread to her eyes and brain.

For anything else, she stays. Sometimes I just keep her home an extra day or 2 if she's not herself. She gets right back into after a few days home.

I'm sorryChat Icon I know how hard this is. I'm NOT looking forward to the winter and her being sick for monthsChat Icon

I agree & would handle it the same way. The only thing I would check is that they are reinforcing handwashing. One of the daycare moms in Maddie's class had a "no plush" animal rule for her daughter. I'm not sure if it helped or not.

Now that he's in 1st grade, some of Joseph's classmates are sick all of the time. One of the school aides commented that she can always tell the daycare kids because they're usually the ones faring better healthwise for the first few years.
