Working Moms, Daycare And Being Sick

Just curious for those that work f/t and your DC is sick... do you take the day off or does your spouse/SO, or do you take turns?

Re: Working Moms, Daycare And Being Sick

Since MIL watches DS in our house neither one of us has to take off. But if he is really bad then we take turns taking off.

I do but lately my SO will take days - which has been a big help.

I work from home most of the time, but sometimes my DH will stay home if I have conference calls that day. But to answer your question - Most of the time it's me.

I take days off. He doesn't get paid if he doesn't go in.

Re: Working Moms, Daycare And Being Sick

This only happened once so far and we took turns. He gets unlimited sick and I have no time left from my maternity leave, but I took some vacation time.

It just depends really, by law our bosses have to let us have time off, so its 50/50, depends on who is busier at work

I can work from home if she is sick and needs to stay home.

Re: Working Moms, Daycare And Being Sick

We alternate days. It really depends on who has an important meeting, or has more work to do. I say, in the end, it all evens out, though now that I have my cushy job, I'm more flexible so it is usually easier for me to take off.

Sometimes we do half days. So, for example, the last time Alex was sick, I had an important AM meeting, and DH had an important PM meeting. He stayed home in the morning and I came home to take over at around 1pm.

It's hard. It's definitely hard. Chat Icon

Re: Working Moms, Daycare And Being Sick

we take turns, although it is MUCH easier for me to work from home and DH doesn't get paid if he doesn't work.

When I am in the middle of a major project though, definitely DH or someone else like MIL or sister.

I work pt now and have a more flexible schedule so I ussually take off...my husband leaves at 6 am so he is usually gone when we know my son is sick. However, when he has a long. drawn out illness, my hubby will try to take off too. HIs job also allows him to work late occasionally.

We take turns. I usually try and get DH to take off more than me though because I have far less sick time on the books because of my maternity leave.

Re: Working Moms, Daycare And Being Sick

We take turns. We decide based on how much we have to do at work, when the last sick day was, etc. So far, he has stayed home more than I have. It's much easier with his job.
