Be careful when walking in your neighborhood...

RON PLEASE DONT MOVE THIS TO PETS BC EVERYONE NEEDS T0 KNOW THIS...

So about an hour ago im walking back to my house after taking my doggy out for a walk....

I see a man working on his bike, and the next thing i know his dog has run over to the other side of the street and is attacking RockyChat Icon I YELLED so loud and scooped up Rocky and was nipped in the process....

The bike guy and his wife came running over and yelled at their dog and asked if Rocks and me were ok. I said yes, asked if their dog had all its shots and walked fast back to my house...Im a little shaken up but Rocky seems fine and is playing now...

SO PLEASE BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS, ESPICAILLY IF YOU'RE WALKING WITH YOUR KIDS....

also

if you're out on your lawn with your dog(especially one thats untrained or doesnt like other dogs), please leash them or keep them in the house

Re: Be careful when walking in your neighborhood...

There is something wrong with people who let their dogs run loose. I went running one night and had a dog chase me, barking. I was yelling over at the house the dog came from and noone responded. It was a man in a car who stopped and chased the dog with his car that finally got it to go back to the house.

What are these people thinkingChat Icon

Re: Be careful when walking in your neighborhood...

I have a family who lives up the block from me who, from the time they moved in the neighborhood, NEVER, EVER has their boxer on a leash. This dog is allowed to wander around all the time. I was walking past their house with one of my dogs and this boxer came from their front lawn into the street and started growling at me and my dog. I got into a huge fight with the wife who had the nerve to yell at me and tell me that since her dog was on her property, he didn't need to be leashed. The next time I see this dog loose, I am calling the town and having the dog picked up. I'll let the town know who owns it and have them contact them to get their dog back. I hate irresponsible dog owners.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Be careful when walking in your neighborhood...

I am glad you are both ok.

I have seen this happen a few times. Dogs come flying out of the house.

My own dog got attacked 3 times....nothing bad....but it was scary and you never know. Dogs off leashes, dogs flying through screen doors, and poof, they are in front of you picking on yoru dog!

I tell my DH, if anyone's dog jumps on our dogs, I dont care how big that dog is, you grab our dog and fight that dog off.

No one's dog is gonna hurt my dog...I would die trying to save my dog. These people need to keep their dogs in the house safely or on leashes, etc.

People need to keep their dogs on a leash!!! It's your legal obligation!!! Chat Icon

My step-mother is in a wheelchair and virtually defenseless against a dog (or any animal). She's TERRIFIED of them - even your little 2 lb. chihuahua. If a dog were to attack her my dad would go absolutely nuts and it would NOT be pretty - for the dog or its owner. I always worry about this. Chat Icon

Re: Be careful when walking in your neighborhood...

I can't believe you are posting this because almost the exact same thing happened to me about a month ago.

I was walking my dog (a little Shitzu) and we were passing another woman (on the opposite side of a wide street) with her dog (an Akita). Her dog went bananas when he saw my dog and she lost control of the leash. He attacked and mauled my dog like a stuffed animal as my 4 year old son and I watched. I was screaming so hard and 2 people stopped to help get this dog off my dog. My dog's whole neck was open - the vet couldn't believe he lived. He ended up with stiches and all around his neck and 2 drains, but thank God now he is alright. My son is now afraid of any dog but our own. He was really traumatized.

After that, I swore I would never walk my dog again with carrying pepper spray or a stick or something. I was so helpless - I had nothing to protect him or God forbid if this dog attacked my son I wouldn't have been able to get him off.

I'm glad your dog is o.k.! And please, everyone, if you are ever out walking around please carry something to protect yourself. You never know!

Re: Be careful when walking in your neighborhood...

Whenever we go out walking (hubby, kids and me) we always go with hockey sticks... Hubby and the kids are hitting the ball back and forth to each other and me am constantly looking around. Its terrible to always walk in fear of being attacked. Years ago I was attacked by a german shephard in my own driveway. I was walking to my car and the people who lived in the apartment under me dog got out and attacked me from the back, pinned me to the ground thankfully it was winter and I had on a thick jacket so his teeth didn't break my skin but the dog did a number on my back and had to go to the chiropractor for months afterwards. Let me tell you I am truly afraid of german shephards now and was always a dog lover.
