Could you

see yourself buying your parents house from them and living there after you were married?

No special family deal either - fair market value...

Re: Could you

no...Not the style of house I would like as my own. Also the rooms were smaller then what I have in my own home now....Plus I wanted to start a new life in my own house...

Re: Could you

no- we were offered my parents house and my inlaws house below fair market value and we turned them both down

too far out east, not my style, too many memories for me (both good and bad)

Re: Could you

Honestly, no. My parent's house needs ALOT of work. The updates have been few and far in between and it's not my style of home either.

My Grandmother's house...a different matter. She's 95 and in poor health. My Mom was hoping I'd move in there (if/when she passes). Again, needs work but I could do it a little at a time and I'd only be responsible for taxes, utilities since she wants to keep the house in the family (doesn't want to sell it). Waayy cheaper than rent and even the updates wouldn't kill me financially. Of course I'm not rushing grandma to the grave, but in this market, I'd rather see my parents hold onto the house (fully paid) then to sell it for a lowball offer.

Re: Could you

i would not buy my parents' house but would certainly buy my inlaws' house. they live in a cute neighborhood and really keep the house looking nice. it would be move in ready! my parents' house is too small.

Re: Could you

I'm torn, I would love to live in that house forever, but I would also like to have my own memories in my own home.

I do know that I don't ever want to sell that house when the time comes. I want to keep that house forever.

Re: Could you

As much as i love my parents house, I would feel weird there without them - like something was missing.

this is why we turned my parents down

that and their death will be hard enough to deal with, without being surrounded by memories

Re: Could you

Although it was VERY sad when my parents sold our house on LI last year after my wedding- I would never buy it- I love the house I grew up in, but I do not want to live on LI anymore- that's why we bought our house in CT.

No. While my parents house is nice, I am hoping to buy something a little larger on a bigger plot.
