How easily Jared would sleep. Also...how difficult it was to find time for myself.

Re: Q What was the one thing that
My biggest surprise was what an angel he was. I was so prepared for a colicky, fussy crying baby. As a newborn, Steven would go days without crying!
Second biggest surprise was that I would think poopy was cute. But, that ended real fast

I pretty much agree with *everything* that Beth said.
I was not prepared for such a profound life change even though, logically, I knew things were going to change.
Same here. I knew things were going to change but didn't know how overwhelmed I would be.
I was also suprised at how little getting up in the middle of the night bothered me.
I was surprised at all of my "I will never"s went out the window.
I was also surprised that I wasn't in love from the minute they were born. It only took a couple of days but they were little strangers that I brought home - and with no manual - versus the immediate love I always read about.

Re: Q What was the one thing that
Good: What an easy baby she was. She ate and slept without issue.
Bad: Even though she was an easy baby, I had he blues and the enormous self doubt. I felt like I had no clue what I was doing and when she cried it was all my fault. I cried every night for the first month. I was also surprised about how I didn't feel connected to her right away.

Ladies thank you so much for these insightful answers...us girls on pregnancy are all so anxious for this new life to arrive, but I think also have this unrealistic picture at times of how things are going to be.

PPD and being an hormonal mess. I cried, sweated and snapped constantly. I was a walking ******! But I still was overwhelmingly overjoyed at being a mom Basically I went wacko for a few weeks due to hormones

Re: Q What was the one thing that
How overwhelming my love for her is. I knew I would love her, but it amazes me everyday how much I love her. She still doesn't sleep through the night at almost 6 months and doesn't nap very well, but I expected that. I still love her so much and it has surprised me that I can get by so well on so little sleep. I've just gotten used to it. I used to "NEED" 7-8 hours every night. Now I'm happy if I get 4-5.
eta: I was also surprised at the whole "mother's instinct" thing. There have been so many times when I "just know" what she needs or what the right thing to do is. Of course, there have also been a few times when I am completely clueless. I also want to add that I agree with nrthshgrl that my love for her was not instant. Of course I loved her as soon as she was in my "belly," but once she was born it took a few days to really get to know her and adjust (actually the adjusting took weeks or months.) And I was surprised how how quick my recovery from the c-section was, especially since I had some complications at the end of her birth.

The Good: I really didn't expect such a good baby! Great sleeper, Great eater and loves to play.
The Bad: For me BFing was hard. My milk supply was so little. I was only able to do it for a month.

how your body will eventually adjust to no sleep - (prior to babies sleeping was my favorite pasttime& I would NEVER be able to function on less than 8 hrs a night!!)

they told me to ONLY give her 1 oz. She cried the WHOLE ENTIRE night. From the next day on she got 3-4 ozs. Such horrible info caused such a stressful first night.

Re: Q What was the one thing that
OMG everything i guess..i didnt expect the crying alll day long...having to drive my dd in the car just to get her to sleep at night..my pp depression.crying because my dd was crying..i guess the overall adjustment was tough..but the most amazing feeling is that you love this child more than anything..that was maybe the most amazing..but that really kicked in when she stopped crying at 5-6 months.and then it was twice as much/.LOL..

Re: Q What was the one thing that
well for me it was his never ending, constant, incessant crying... and the fact that he never ever slept which in turn meant I didnt either.
The only children I had ever known were my niece's and nephew and they were the "angel" babies that people speak of. I had no idea my son would be the opposite. It was a total eye opener. But now 16 months later, I can say it was totally all worth it, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: Q What was the one thing that
How overwhelming it is to be solely responsible for this tiny precious person who can't do anything for themselves and who you love more than life itself. The pressure, guilt, and self-doubt that comes along w/that. And the way my heart has swelled with love like I could never have imagined.

DD got a very tiny bit of blood when I went to wipe her at a few days old. I had heard about it before otherwise I may not have even noticed. It is completely normal. Don't worry.

Bad - That my milk supply would be so horrible that I could not even feed one baby not two, when everyone was saying I would have sooo much milk.
Good - That my husband would be such an amazing father
