Re: Imus dropped!

You know what I may get slammed for this but I'm tired of situations like this getting blown up...Why is it ok for black entertainers to slam white people in their shows - use racist terms like cracker and redneck and its called entertainment but should a white person say something its RACIST????

I once went to a comedy show and before heading into the theater we were told that the material used may be offensive to some...I had no idea what they meant...we ended up walking out of the show within 20 minutes of this headliners performance...it was plain out racist against white people - the first few comments made us laugh - then it went on and on and it made us all uncomfortable...it was past funny.

Had it been a white performer making jokes like that it would have been BIG news...

This all falls under the First Amendment IMO...we let Al Sharpton say what he wants because of it...

I guess some comedians/singers feel like since they had to live with racism for so long, it's payback time. 2 wrongs don't make a right. I seriously cannot STAND Martin Lawrence. first, I think he is talentless! 2nd, he is a disgusting racist!

MSNBC dropped Imus the day before his radiothon. . .I hope people still remember to donate because it is a great cause that should NOT suffer because of this controversy. Here is more information if anyone is interested:

WFAN Radiothon

I am glad you posted about this....I forgot to. It is so unfair that his radiothon will suffer for this. Those poor kids are just secondary victims to all this shiiiit nowChat Icon

Re: Imus dropped!

I think Imus getting dropped is ridiculous.

Once again Al Sharpton has blown something out of proportion. Al Sharpton is once again finding a way to divide the races whereas he is supposed to be this great "CIVIL rights" leader. When has Al ever done something great that made a positive change in our society.

Was it wrong - yes. Should he apologize - yes and he did. But if you heard the way he said it, he was joking and not being to serious. Listening to what Snoop Dog said last night about the Imus incident was just as racist calling Imus that "Old White Azz". Can I say that offends me? Why the need to mention the white part? Racism is just going round and round. Let's see if Al goes after Gangster Rap.

Nappy-head is what bothers so many people. Go online and look up nappy-head hair salon. Guess how many come up? It was on the Flavor of Love Charm School the other night! Why is it okay for black people to use it and not white. I didn't realize that white people and black people could only use such phrases?

People who listen to WFAN will remember that this is not the first time this has happened. A few years ago, his co-host, Sid Rosenberg, made a racist comment about the Williams' sisters (tennis). He was suspended for a brief time, but is back. The show was not yanked.

Imus will be fine. WFAN will likely not yank him. And if it does, he'll join Stern on satellite.

I have no doubt Imus will be fine but the point is if Imus were to be fired for something he said that wasn't against any sort of regulations but was offensive, well then nearly every person on radio and TV should be booted as well. It does nothing for our freedoms as Americans

Condemn one..condemn them all

He's in trouble that there are no other news stories for the past couple of days to take this out of the spotlight.

The fact that the troops are mandated to stay for another 3 months to each term should be front page news, not this Imus 'scandal'.

I guess the president would prefer the troop story to be on page 7 of course....

In my opinion this whole thing is ridiculous and has gotten waaay out of hand...once again thanks to the media. Don't get me wrong...what he said was totally out of line, racist and sexist, however, I think there are people out there that are out to get him and are using this as an opportunity to bring him down and there's such double-standard in this country...others can say such racist and derogatory things on national air/tv and everyone just brushes it off, and then there's the other "bunch" that gets kicked up the a$$ for it. JMHO.

Re: Imus dropped!

I am very happy to see MSNBC take him off the air. I am also happy that companies with headquarters in Jersey are withdrawing their commercials and showing support for Rutgers.

Howard Stern says nasty things BUT now that he is on Sirius he can say and do whatever he wants. People pay to listen to him be a jerk. You cannot say "nappy headed ho" on am/fm radio. You should not be allowed to say it anywhere but you can say it on Sattelite radio.

That is the difference between Howard and Imus.

The difference between Howard and Imus, as a previous poster stated is that Howard does a comedy show. Imus does not.

Imus talks about his opinion - and his opinion is racist. Howard Stern speaks and produces segments to make people laugh, not give his opinion on specific topics. (Now, if you find that type of humor funny, is another debate totally.)

Howard is an 'equal opportunity offender'. He makes fun of caucasions as quickly and as often that he makes fun of other races.

I just want to add something here...

there is a distinct difference between a radio talk show and a rap song. the radio show can only survive if the advertisers keep it on the air. if people buy the CD's of these offensive songs, there really isn't anything anyone can do. if people boycotted these a-hole rappers, they would stop!

This makes zero sense to me. I there Meredith Veira makes good point about here. Video of Today Show

I HATE HATE HATE to agree with this a-hole, but he is right. it's not the same thing. "artists" do not work for the network. and as long as people buy the CD's with these racist lyrics, nothing will be done about it. it's terrible!

I am so glad someone finally brought up the fact that what he said was also SEXIST! Who is making a big stink for the fact that he not only made a racist comment, but one against women in general?
Oh, I guess him being a racist is more important than him being a sexist...

I couldn't care less either way.

Re: Imus dropped!

I havne't read thru the entire thread (but I definitely will after I post) so I'm sure this has been said already.

Do I think what he said was wrong? Absolutely and totally uncalled for...

Do I think he should be penalized in the way that he has been? NOPE! An apology would've been just fine.

I'm so sick and tired of people getting preferential treatment around here (ie. Howard Stern). HS may not be making racial remarks but he does make demeaning comment towards women, so where were the Rutgers women, or any women for that matter, when he was having diarrhea of the mouth calling women stippers and hos??

I understand that advertisers are getting pressure to pull out from his show, but PLEASE. Enough already, he made a stupid and offensive comment and apologized for it AND was suspended from his radio show for 2 weeks... when is enough enough?

Basically my opinion boils down to this. If you going to make Imus the poster child of diarrhea of the mouth than I guess you should add Howard Stern, a list of rappers a mile long, a few comedians, and Mel Gibson as well.
