Drop side cribs?

Mommies I need your help. I started looking at furniture this weekend and noticed a lot of the cribs I like don't have drop sides. How do you get the baby in and out if your side doesn't drop? I think I need one since I am only 5'1". TIA

I am 5'3. I don't have a drop side crib and do just fine. Even with a 13 month old I have no problems.

Re: Drop side cribs?

I have a drop side crib. It is Pali and I bought it from Behr's. Believe me, they are hard to find but they are out there. For me it was a essential since I have a bad back and thank G O D I got it because this past week my back has been hurting so badly that I can't really lift DS high enough to go over the side of the crib without dropping it down.

Re: Drop side cribs?

I went with the look of my crib rather than the practicality and I have to say I hate not having the drop side. I am 5'3" and I have to do all sorts of gymnastics to lean over the side to get him in.

Re: Drop side cribs?

I'm 5'4" and without the drop side crib, I'd be at a loss. The other thing I like about the drop side crib that I have, is that it's much higher up than the stationary sides. If you have a tall baby or one who stands early in their crib like I do, then a drop side crib that is high is really important. My parents have a stationary side crib for Ava and it's on the lowest setting and only comes up to Ava's chest, so it scares me. Hope that made sense!

I am 5'2 and I have a drop side - but to be honest - I haven't even used it once.

I'm 5'2 and can't imagine life without my drop side. Its hard enough to get baby in gently on the lowest setting already!

DO NOT BUY A CRIB WITHOUT A DROP DOWN SIDE.

This is a PSA. I have one without a drop down side and I really should have bought one WITH a drop down side. I hurt my back a few months ago and I was not able to pick up or put down my kid into his crib.

I only bought a cheap crib to be honest, so in the end i won't be that unhappy, I am only about 5'7", not a giant, but I found it really hard at around the year stage to put the kid in.

I am tall and never used it but may babysitter was shorter and she used it all the time.

I can say now that I am preggo - it is much easier to use the drop side because my belly gets in the way and hurts when I don't drop the side to get him out. Also much easier to change the sheets with drop sides. Chat Icon

Re: Drop side cribs?

We're both about 5'6", and both DC have solid frame cribs. For paranoid reasons, we didn't want a drop-down side. All it takes is one sleep-deprived night to not lock the side back up in the upright position, and the baby could easily fall out. It may never happen, but we didn't take the chance. I've seen a couple drop-down cribs where you have to be careful about latching it. Either it is difficult to fully latch, or it looks like it is latched, but isn't fully. Yes, they are all safe once they are latched, but what if it isn't latched?

I am 5'5 and I kept it dropped down until he learned to sit up and it and now when I put him to bed because his mattress is on the lowest setting and I am 27 weeks pg so my belly is starting to get in the way. The time inbetween I didn't use but a feature I am very happy I have and I plan on getting another drop down for my second child.

Re: Drop side cribs?

I'm 5'2 and always use the drop side on the crib. I wouldn't have bought one without it.

Re: Drop side cribs?

I'm only 5 feet and I need the drop side. I haven't been able to use it in the past 2 months because DH broke it and it is not impossible to put her in and out, but it will be much easier when it gets fixed.

Sorelle, which Behr's probably has and I know Buy Buy Baby has makes a bunch of cribs that are the lifetime cribs, and have that look of the no-drop side, but they do drop down. I was very close to buying one of them, but I got a great deal on the one I got.

Re: Drop side cribs?

Well I bought a drop-side because people told me I wouldn't be able to get my son in and out. I definitely didn't need it and I barely lower it. I am about 5'5. Its not that I regret getting it, but I did not need it.
