I don't like Imus but I don't agree with NBC at all on this one.

There are so many people on TV or radio that say crazy offensive things...

I think Imus is taking the fall for all of them

I agree with this. He made a stupid off-handed remark and he should be punished for it, but I think dropping his show is extreme. There are plenty of black comedians & rappers who make fun of "whitey" but we wouldn't dare to scream racism about that!

Imus' remarks were stupid and thoughtless, but he has had more underpriveleged black children to his home than Al Sharpton has, and I don't think portraying him as a racist is the way to go here. This will more than likely jeopardize his program at the Imus Ranch, which will ultimately have the greatest impact on the children -- not on Imus.

I really didn't think he would be dropped...I think he was dropped due to pressures from advertisers and I think it boils down to money IMO

what rappers do and what Imus did are 2 different things. rappers are not saying things in a derogatory manner or being racist. they dont call out specific groups and publicly humiliate them.

i believe a while back Opie and Anthony got the boot because a listener was dumb enough to have s ex on a train cause they said to. THAT was a dumb firing. but making racial comments and embarassing a group of women who did nothing to him personally is just wrong to me.

being a person of ethnicity, the topic of racism is always touchy to me. flame away if you want, but i was offended FOR the girls of Rutgers by what Imus said.

I agree with the O&A thing - but the same thing happened- sponsers left. no $$, no show!

WHat he said was stupid, ignorant, and foolish - but many other people have done far worse than him and have kept there jobs.

FH listens to Stern, and apparently (according to them, so take it for what its worth) when they worked at the same station Imus was quite the racist Chat Icon (walking past Robyn caller her the N word - but again that was according to them)

eta: and i think the "rappers dont say derogatory things" is quite far fetched - they certainly humiliate certain groups.

yes, what imus did was wrong. why doesn't everyone get on howard stern for the things that he does

why does Stern get mentioned when other DJs get reprimandedChat Icon Trust me he pays more fines than most entire networks do for all their DJs. Difference is his sponsors choose him because of his style, not in spite of it, so they do not threaten to pull out like they are doing to Imus.

I am in total support of Imus.

I think it's horrible what they're doing to him. What about all the rappers who talk such $HIT about women... no one complains about them!???! And you mean to tell me that Al Sharpton mever utters anything bad about us white folk?? Chat Icon

I am SO disappointed. I feel bad that Imus is getting all this flack.

He admitted he said something wrong and apologized for it. Who hasn't said something wrong?????

while I think Howard can get away with a little more because he has a black female on his show, he says derogatory stuff about everyone, including himself, which I think helps him more. Howard interviews porn stars, Imus interviews politicans, their shows are quite different.

and it does all come down to $$$$$$.

ITA, and I think reverse racism is a real problem, and I think that an even bigger problem is that the first amendment is at stake. Guess what - people get offended - so don't friggin listen anymore. To take someone's livelihood b/c of an off-hand (albeit stupid) statement made during a show is just plain wrong. Let the market take its course naturally....less listeners = less advertiser money = no income for the show.

Sorry but this is so wrong. Media should be a free platform for expression.

you may not have ever been offended by a song, but other people may have. I dont listen to rap music because when I do hear it, its usually very negative towards women. how many rappers refer to women as "b!tches and hoes"?

Iced T took alot of flack for that song as he should have. he was dropped from his label because it was the appropriate thing to do. as it is here with the Imus situation.

why is it slang when it's in a rap song, but a racist attack when Imus says it? I am not a fan of double standards....... I think it is damaging & as a woman it offends me.

What action do I take...I don't listen nor do I buy/download any of these songs. Even back when 2live crew & nwa were hot I would not listen. It paints women as mindless sex objects and like punching bags if the acts were not performed to the artists "standard."

So you guys are mad that Imus was dropped. I think I am ****** that as a college educated mother of three smart beautiful children - I had to explain to my children all week why it is so wrong to call someone a NAPPY-HEADED HO! Believe me the Ho part is not as bad as the nappy-headed part. As an african- american, words like nappy-headed are derogatory as it is insulting to my being black. My dark skin, my full lips, my big hips and my thick hair. We are sick and tired of being looked at as being less than, because of our black features. And ladies let anyone call your college-educated athletic daughter a HO and see how angry you get!

I agree that it was wrong, and I can more than appreciate how difficult the conversation that followed between you & your DDs must have been, but can you honestly say that you & your children listened to the comment as Imus was saying it? My guess is no. So who is to blame for it coming into your house, Imus for saying it to an audience of maybe tens of thousands, or the news who felt the need to propagate the hate to millions for 3 days straight. The media sensationalizes EVERYTHING. So they will profit off of the news of his comments, and they are getting ratings from it, while he gets fired.

I agree, it is a horrible thing to have said, and he apologized and will again apologize. But the news is STILL repeating his soundbyte over & over.

And I think there are many prejudices that we have to face. I am also college-educated, and I have been called way worse than "ho." Sorry to be cynical, but it is a fact of life. Chat Icon

not OK for either. But the comment made was that in a rap song it is slang. Why is it not slang on the radio when Imus said it. I am just trying to understand why there is a difference? To me there is none. And no one should lose their job over it.....

I don't see the good reverend beating down the doors of Def Jam, Rock A Fella Records, J Records, Warner Bros.... this list is endless! Where they promote the use of the very same slang.
