"Pick your battles." It took me 30 years or so to realize why, but I've started to do it, and it's so worth it. So many less headaches.

my parents are really big on being honest and sincere in life and being proud of who you are always. never flaunting things, never trying to be someone you aren't etc.
so every time we'd encounter someone who did nothing but showoff about something, on and on and on.
my mom has this Italian proverb that sounds something like
"theres lots of smoke but no fire"
and most of the time, she was right.
as far as advice from a person, not so much a proverb.
My grandmother's words ring in my ears for the rest of my life.
when we had boyfriends in our teens (15?), she'd say "dont let them take you down the crooked road, you stay on the straight path"
It sounded so much better in her Italian dialect and the way she said it
and sure enough, hearing her, time after time, I "got it" just from those few powerful words from one of THE most influential people in my life.
oh I could go on and on.....

To allow people to help me. I am such a perfectionist and I feel like if I don't do everything myself, then I did nothing. After I had Ava, I actually took that advice. Best advice I ever took!
