Can I just say I have never in my life heard of not keeping potatoes in the fridge...that's where I keep them, because that's where my mom kept them. I guess I will have to find a new place.

I keep mine in a wicker and wood tower that I have in my kitchen. They keep much better out of the fridge!

You are also supposed to keep Eggs on the counter, they don't do well with changes in temperature so you should keep them out.

Here's the deal w/eggs-I raise chickens so I spend a lot of time reading up on this-Eggs that are sold in the US are usually between 4 & 6 weeks old at the time we buy them, which is totally fine. They are not refridgerated until they get on the truck, then they are refridgerated from that point on, so when you purchase eggs that are cold you should continue to keep them cold.
My eggs that my chickens lay are not refridgerated, unless I give them to someone that chooses to put them in the fridge. The reason store bought eggs are usually so easy to peel when hard boiled is because they are old. My eggs can't really be peeled smoothly unless I pierce the shell before I boil them. Store bought eggs are also washed, which isn't really the best thing because the shells are porous & washing them sending any contaimination INTO the egg. 99% of my eggs are perfectly clean, then hens "know" not to go into the nests with dirty feet, they never poop where they lay. In commercial egging this isn't true because of the disgusting conditions battery hens are kept in.

Its a little off the original topic but here's a link

eggs

Always try to buy "cage free" or "free range" eggs

I was always wondering why the brown eggs I got I could NEVER PEEL and the conventional eggs I could
THANK YOU

I think I am going to start buying brown eggs!

Also, my Mom was just telling me she keeps her potatoes in a brown bag inside the garage in a basket...

They actually make bins designed for this-- my aunt has one, it's cute, if you have the room,
and buy a lot of pototoes & onions.

We have a tiny kitchen, so they are usually on top of the fridge, in a bowl.

ETA- Here is another one:

potatoes are in a cabinet in the garage, onions are in the fridge. Our eggs we get from the local poultry farm - they don't refrigerate them but out of habit we do once we get them. We don't use them that quickly, so I cant leave them out for weeks/months.
